A while back, Charles Barkley challenged 67 year old referee, Dick Bavetta to a race. Bavetta accepted his challenge and their race took place on Saturday night at the NBA All-Star Skills Challenge.
The race went baseline to baseline, and then to the half-court line of the court. It started out with 2 or 3 false starts by Barkley before they finally got going. Barkley got out to early lead and kept it all the way to the end. Barkley was running backwards across the line taunting Bavetta and then the seismograph recorders in the Vegas area went off when Barkley hit the floor. Bavetta did his best head first slide to the half-court line but it was to no avail.
After the race, Ernie Johnson was trying to interview Sir Charles, Charles had to call a timeout and have Johnson interview Bavetta because he was clearly winded. It really looked like Barkley was going to pass out.
First up is the video of the race. The second video is how Charles celebrated his victory.
