What Is Happening to the NBA

The Stud Himself

If you are a fantasy owner or invested in even the smallest of sportsbook endeavors the fact of the matter is that you probably made out like a bandit with the King.

It should come as no surprise to regulars and expert NJ sports betting online that LeBron rocked the house from its figurative foundation the other day begging the question, will the reign truly ever be over?

MVP? MVP? MVP?

Nooooo…

The NBA shocked the sports world on Wednesday night when the league announced it was suspending its 2019-20 season play indefinitely.

There’s really no word on whether or not the league will even finish out the season, with a possibility of the playoffs to take place during the summer instead. In the meantime, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that 30 days is the minimum length of time that the league will cease playing games.

NBA players were shocked at the news, and understandably so. Suns star Devin Booker sure was, as he found out the news while playing video games. He was absolutely surprised, and reacted as such.

We felt the same way.

Will the Mighty Fall

Jazz star Donovan Mitchell became the second NBA player to have tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday.

Mitchell likely was infected by teammate Rudy Gobert, who was the first to have come down with the virus. That resulted in the league testing all the Jazz and Thunder players following Wednesday’s game.

Since that time, Mitchell has tested positive, with other NBA players likely to get tested as well.

He addressed his condition, giving an update on it via Instagram on Thursday.

Prayers up for Mitchell and Gobert, as well as anyone else affected by the virus.

Wise Words

Trail Blazers big man Hassan Whiteside just wanted a facial you guys, although he probably shouldn’t have taken to social media to announce that to the world.

That’s exactly what he did after dunking all over an opposing player in the team’s most recent game against the Suns. It was a pretty nice posterization, and you can see it here.

The real hijinks went down in the comments, though, when Gobert said “I wanted the facial.”

Well, it wasn’t long until other NBA players — Bam Adebayo, Carmelo Anthony, Dion Waiters, Rodney Hood and others — got wind of it, and trolled the hell out of him in the comments.

Too funny.

Former Husky Hasheem Thabeet Traded To Sixers; Then Waived

Former UConn Huskies center Hasheem Thabeet has been traded by the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Hasheem Thabeet #34 of the Oklahoma City Thunder shoots over Matt Barnes #22 of the Los Angeles Clippers at Staples Center on November 13, 2013 in Los Angeles, California. The Thunder have also sent cash to the 76ers while receiving a second round draft pick in 2015 and a trade exception.

According to reports, Thabeet will be waived by the 76ers making him a free agent.

Thabeet was drafted second overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2009 NBA Draft and has played for four teams including the Grizzlies. They are the Houston Rockets (traded in 2010-11 season to them), Portland Trailblazers (traded to them in 2011-12 season) and the Oklahoma City Thunder (signed with them in 2012).

In 224 career games in the NBA, the former Husky has averaged 10.5 minutes, 2.2 PPG and 2.7 RPG.

It’ll be interesting to see if any team takes a chance on Thabeet or if he ends up in the D League. It’s also possible he could end up playing in Europe, mostly because of his height.

Jeremy Lamb Traded To Oklahoma City Thunder

UConn's Jeremy Lamb hits a breakaway dunk with AIC's D.J. Gutridge (15) and Spencer Braithwaite trailing during the first half of an exhibition game at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs.

The only time that former UConn Huskies guard Jeremy Lamb ever plays a regular season game in Houston will now come when his new team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, visits the Toyota Center.

Lamb, the 12th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets, was just one part of a huge trade that the Rockets and Thunder pulled off late Saturday night.

The Thunder are sending James Harden, the 2012 winner of the NBA's Sixth Man Award, as well as Cole Aldrich, Daequan Cook and Lazar Hayward to the Rockets for Lamb, Kevin Martin, two future first round draft picks and a future second round pick.

Lamb appeared in six preseason games for the Rockets, making one start. In those six games, he averaged 6.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists.

Jeff Adrien to Get Chance with Houston Rockets

Here’s the release from the Houston Rockets that former UConn Huskies power forward Jeff Adrien has been signed by the team. He’ll join his former Huskies teammate, Hasheem Thabeet, in the Space City.

HOUSTON – Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has signed free agent forward Jeff Adrien. Per team policy, financial terms were not released.

Adrien (6-7, 243, Connecticut), who had been playing with Benetton Treviso in Italy, appeared in 23 games over two stints with Golden State in 2010-11. His second stint with the Warriors was as a GATORADE Call-Up from the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-League.

Overall, Adrien appeared in 27 D-League games last season between the Erie BayHawks and Rio Grande Valley, averaging 18.3 points, 11.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.03 steals and 1.44 blocks in 32.7 minutes per contest. He was named the 2010-11 NBA D-League Impact Player of the Year (as voted by the league’s head coaches) after helping the Vipers to an 18-4 record in his 22 games with the team following a trade from Erie. The D-League Player of the Month for Jan. 2011 was also a D-League All-Star in 2010-11.

As a collegian, Adrien finished his career at the University of Connecticut with 1,603 points and 1,126 rebounds, becoming only the second Husky with over 1,600 points and 1,100 rebounds in a career since Jim Calhoun became coach in 1986. He was also just the fifth player in school history to amass over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. Adrien ranked 12th on the career points list and finished with the third-highest rebounding total ever by a Husky. As team captain in 2008-09, Adrien helped lead UConn to the NCAA Final Four.
