Destination Red Sox Nation is our look at how the minor league teams of the Boston Red Sox fare each night. With all of the Red Sox minor league teams now done for the season this will be our last Destination Red Sox Nation post for game recaps.
The Red Sox had 4 of their minor league teams, the Pawtucket Red Sox, Portland Sea Dogs, Lancaster JetHawks and Lowell Spinners, make the playoffs. Only the JetHawks got to the championship where they recently lost to the Stockton Ports 3-1.
You can expect all but one of the Red Sox minor league affiliates to be playing in the same city next season. The player development contract (PDC) with the JetHawks was up at the end of the season and with the Salem Avalance of the Carolina League having been bought by the Fenway Sports Group, it’s a foregone conclusion that they will their team to Salem next season. It’s just a matter of when they announce it and that most likely will happen in the next few weeks.
It costs a lot for the Red Sox and other teams with their minor league teams especially when they send players to the different teams. The move to Salem will give the Red Sox all of their teams on the east coast now. The two “A” level teams will now be located just 243 miles apart instead of 2,605 miles.
These things can happen pretty quick and I know this from experience. Back in 2000 when I was working for the New Haven Ravens, our PDC was up with the Seattle Mariners. The day after we won the Eastern League Championship, we were getting the ballpark ready for an announcement later that day the we were becoming an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.
So once the news becomes official along with any other Red Sox minor league news, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
Before the jump, here is a video profile of Argenis Diaz, who is a shortstop in the Red Sox system from NESN. After the jump, you will find links the Red Sox minor league teams final stats and standings along with the team’s websites.
