Hideki OkajimaMost people go to Hawaii to enjoy the sun and the surf or even get married. Boston Red Sox reliever Hideki Okajima has other plans though as he plans to run in the Honolulu Marathon on Sunday.

Race spokesman Pat Bigold says it will be Okajima’s first marathon. The lefty will wear No. 37, which is his number for the Red Sox.
Okajima, who turns 33 on Christmas Day, is among 23,000 runners entered in the 26.2 mile race with about 60 percent of the field from his native Japan.

Usually we hear of athletes wives partaking in these types of things. Obviously Okajima has been keeping busy training for the marathon.

UPDATE: I missed this from Amalie Benjamin yesterday.

The Red Sox were surprised to learn that lefthanded reliever Hideki Okajima will be running in the Honolulu Marathon Sunday. One team official said the Sox were not pleased and would have discouraged him had the team been apprised of his decision.
