Back in early December, the UConn Huskies men’s basketball program picked up a 2011 recruit in Maurice Harkless out of Queens, NY. And now it seems all the recent trouble with the NCAA investigation into Nate Miles and Josh Nochimson may have caught up to them.
According to Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv, Harkless has decided to decommit from UConn and has decided to reopen his recruitment.
“I want to just reopen my recruitment,” Harkless told SNY.tv exclusively Monday morning by phone. “I just want to make sure UConn is still the right choice and explore my other options.”
He also says that the investigation is only a small part of his decision but I really think it’s the main reason why. Why would he want to go to UConn if they were say banned from the postseason? While that may not happen, it could so why would a kid want to take that chance.
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. My best guess is we’ll have to wait until the NCAA hands down it’s punishment on the Huskies.
