What started as a group of players meeting up in Storrs, Conn., during the offseason with a goal of returning UConn to the upper echelon of basketball’s ranks, culminated Monday night in a national championship for the University of Connecticut. Through a rollercoaster regular season and a month of madness, the UConn Huskies cut down the net in Dallas to cap an epic 32-win season. This marks UConn’s fourth national championship (1999, 2004, 2011 and 2014) and first under Coach Kevin Ollie.
Former UConn standout and professional basketball superstar Rudy Gay commented about this year’s champs:
“I’m proud of my Huskies. They overcame a lot, but still remain elite. Congrats.”
Nike’s official championship T-shirt and hat, worn on-court by the players as they celebrated the win, are now available at fanatics.com.
Included in the offering is the Nike Locker Room Connecticut “Lone Star Statement” men’s t-shirt and cap.
