Roger Clemens was suspended 5 games by MLB disciplinarian Bob Watson and also fined an undisclosed amount of money for beaning Alex Rios in the back. Joe Torre was also suspended 1 game as well.
Clemens was ejected from the game after beaning Rios. The reason Clemens hits Rios was to protect his hitter, Alex Rodriguez, who had been hit in the knee earlier by Josh Towers incident. The beanings really stem from back in May when AROD said something in the direction of Howie Clark when he was going to catch a pop up.
While the punishment fits the crime, shouldn’t have Towers been suspended as well. To me, it’s a part of the game to protect your hitter.
