I know what your expecting. You are expecting for me to tell you more about the Matsuzaka happenings. Well that’s not the case. On Friday, the Boston Red Sox announced they had traded minor league pitcher Phil Seibel to the Los Angeles Angels for relief pitcher Brendan Donnelly.
Donnelly was 6-0 last season with a 3.94 ERA. For his career, he has a 2.87 ERA and 1.16 WHIP (Walks/hits over innings pitched). Donnelly was also a member of the 2002 World Series championship team in Anaheim.
Also the Red Sox announced they had signed free agent J.C. Romero to a 1 yr contract worth $1.6 million. Minus a closer, the Red Sox bullpen is starting to take shape. They now have 2 lefties (Romero and Okajima), Mike Timlin, Donnelly, Craig Hansen, and Manny Declarman. Hansen is supposed to be the closer of the future but the Red Sox don’t think he’s ready to handle that so he will probably be used in a set up role. I wouldn’t be surprised if you see Jonathan Papelbon closing again next season in Boston.
On the radio side of things, the Red Sox announced that Dave O’Brien and Glen Geffner will join Joe Castiglione in the booth for the upcoming season. Dave O’Brien works for ESPN calling MLB, NCAA Basketball. He was also the lead announcer on the World Cup soccer games for ESPN this past year. Geffner will fill in for O’Brien when O’Brien has ESPN commitments.
