Apparently besides the off the field issues, there was actually something wrong with Boston Red Sox pitcher John Lackey.

John Lackey #41 of the Boston Red Sox walks into the dugout after he was pulled from the game against the Los Angeles Angels on May 5, 2011 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. Before Monday night’s game with the Baltimore Orioles, the Red Sox placed him on the disabled list with a right elbow strain. Taking Lackey’s place on the 25-man roster is Scott Atchison who was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.

What’s funny about this is the fact that Atchison was seen in the Red Sox clubhouse before the game but skipper Terry Francona denied there was a roster move coming.

Atchison was spotted before tonight’s game in the Sox clubhouse, but Sox manager Terry Francona denied there was any roster move in the offing saying, “A liitle miscommunication. Atch was here to pick something up. It’s not a roster move. I didn’t even see him. I heard he was here.”

This will be Atchison’s second appearance with the Red Sox this season. And with Lackey going on the DL, it’s expected that Tim Wakefield will take his place in the rotation although there has been no official announcement just yet. Lackey is scheduled to start Tuesday’s game against the Orioles.
