2011 NCAA Women’s Basketball Rankings – Postseason (Mar. 15)

AP & ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls

The final NCAA women’s basketball rankings came out on Tuesday afternoon and and it should come as no surprise that the UConn Huskies finished at the top yet again. The top five also remained the same from last week as well.

Joining the Huskies from the Big East, which got a record nine teams into the 2011 NCAA Tournament, in the top 10 are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (9/7). The DePaul Blue Demons are ranked No. 10 in the AP Poll but are No. 12 in the coaches poll.

Also in the top 25 from the Big East are the Georgetown Hoyas (22/21) and the Marquette Golden Eagles (24/23). West Virginia is ranked No. 25 in the coaches poll and is the third highest team receiving votes in the AP Poll.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights and St. John’s Red Storm are among the others receiving votes in both polls while the Louisville Cardinals and Syracuse Orange are only receiving votes in the coaches poll.

After the NCAA Women’s Tournament Selection Show, I perused all the rosters of the teams invited and picked one player from each team deemed worthy for this post.

2011 NCAA Women’s Basketball Rankings – Week 16 (Mar. 1)

AP & ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls

For the second straight week, the UConn Huskies women’s basketball remains the No. 1 team in both polls. The top six teams remain the same in both polls as well.

Joining the Huskies in the top ten from the Big East are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7/8).

Other teams in the top 25 from the Big East are the DePaul Blue Demons (12/13), Georgetown Hoyas (17/21) and the Marquette Golden Eagles (20/23). The West Virginia Mountaineers are among the others receiving votes in the AP Poll but are ranked No. 22 in the coaches poll.

The St. John’s Red Storm and Louisville Cardinals are among the others receiving votes in both polls. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights and Syracuse Orange are also among the others receiving votes in just the coaches poll.

2011 NCAA Women’s Basketball Rankings – Week 15 (Feb. 22)

AP & ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls

After spending the past eight weeks as the number two team in women’s college basketball, the UConn Huskies have returned to the top in both polls after the former No. 1 Baylor Bears lost last Saturday. With the loss, the Bears slipped to No. 3 while the Stanford Cardinal, the only team to beat UConn this season, moved up to No. 2.

Joining the Huskies in the top ten from the Big East are the No. 8/7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The DePaul Blue Demons are ranked No. 7 in the AP Poll but are only No. 11 in the coaches poll.

The other Big East teams ranked in the top 25 of both polls are the Georgetown Hoyas (18/19), West Virginia Mountaineers (19/18) and the Marquette Golden Eagles (24/22).

The St. John’s Red Storm are the only team from the Big East in the other receiving votes of both polls. The Louisville Cardinals, Syracuse Orange and Rutgers Scarlet Knights are among the others receiving votes in the coaches poll.

AP & ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls

Another week of NCAA Women’s Basketball polls and we find the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team narrowing the gap between themselves and the No. 1 Baylor Bears. The Huskies trail the Bears by 10 points in the AP Poll and just six points in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

Stanford, Tennessee and Texas A&M round out the top five in both polls.

Joining UConn from the Big East in the top 10 are the No. 8/8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, a team the Huskies will face on Saturday afternoon at Gampel Pavilion. The DePaul Blue Demons are ranked No. 10 in the AP Poll but are No. 11 in the coaches poll.

Also in the top 25 from the Big East are the Georgetown Hoyas (18/18), West Virginia Mountaineers (21/20) and the Marquette Golden Eagles (22/21). St. John’s is among the others receiving votes in the AP Poll but are No. 22 in the coaches polls. Louisville, Rutgers and Syracuse are among the others receiving votes in the coaches poll.

2011 NCAA Women’s Basketball Rankings – Week 13 (Feb. 8)

AP & ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll

Ever since falling to No. 2 in the polls, where they remain today, the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team has continued to narrow the gap between itself and No. 1 Baylor. This week they are the closest they’ve been as they trail the Lady Bears by just 12 points in the AP Poll and nine points in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

The Stanford Cardinal and Tennessse Volunteers come in at No. 3 and No. 4 in both polls while the Duke Blue Devils are No. 5 in the AP Poll. Texas A&M is in at No. 5 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

Joining the Huskies in the top 10 from the Big East are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8/8). The DePaul Blue Demons are No. 10 in the AP Poll but are No. 14 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

AP and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls

The NCAA rankings are out and the UConn Huskies women’s basketball continues to narrow the gap to the No. 1/1 Baylor Bears. The top five in the AP Poll remained the same since it comes out on Monday. In the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, Stanford moved up to No. 3, Tennessee moved up two spots to No. 4 and Duke fell to No. 5.

Joining the Huskies in the top 10 from the Big East is the Notre Dame Fighting Irish who come in at No. 8/8. The DePaul Blue Demons are in the top 10 in the AP Poll at No. 9 but are ranked No. 13 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

2011 NCAA Women’s Basketball Rankings – Week 11 (Jan. 25)

AP & ESPN/USA Today Polls

The UConn Huskies women’s basketball team remains No. 2 in the latest polls and they have narrowed the gap between themselves and No. 1 Baylor in the AP Poll. The margin is about the same as it was last week in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. The top seven teams from last week are the same in both polls.

Joining the Huskies from the Big East in the top 10 are the No. 8/8 West Virginia Mountaineers and the No. 9/9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Also in the top 25 from the Big East are the No. 12/17 DePaul Blue Demons and No. 19/19 Georgetown Hoyas.

The Marquette Golden Eagles, Syracuse Orange, Rutgers Scarlet Knights and St. John’s Red Storm are among the others receiving votes in both polls from the Big East.

2011 NCAA Women’s Basketball Rankings – Week 10 (Jan. 18)

AP & ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls

The UConn Huskies women’s basketball team remains No. 2/2 in the latest polls and have narrowed the gap between themselves and the Baylor Bears ever so slightly. Actually, the top five in both polls remained intact from last week.

The West Virginia Mountaineers join the Huskies from the Big East in the top 10 at No. 9/9. Notre Dame is in the top 10 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll at No. 10 but is No. 11 in the AP Poll.

The others teams from the Big East in the top 25 are the DePaul Blue Demons (13/18) and the Georgetown Hoyas (16/17). The St. John’s Red Storm are among the others receiving votes in the AP Poll but are No. 23 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

The Marquette Golden Eagles and Syracuse Orange are also among the others receving votes in both polls while the Rutgers Scarlet Knights received votes in just the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

AP & ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls

After seeing their record 90-game winning streak come to an end last week against the Stanford Cardinal, the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team has slipped to No. 2 in the latest rankings that came out on Tuesday. The beneficiary of UConn’s loss was the Baylor Bears who move up to No. 1 in both polls.

The Duke Blue Devils remain No. 3 while the Cardinal jumped up to No. 4. The Tennessee Volunteers remain No. 5.

Joining the Huskies from the Big East in the top 10 are the West Virginia Mountaineers (6/7). Other Big East teams in the top 25 are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (13/12), Georgetown Hoyas (15/14), DePaul Blue Demons (16/23) and the St. John’s Red Storm (18/18). The Syracuse Orange are ranked No. 23 in the AP Poll and are the first team receiving votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
