2011 NCAA Men’s Basketball Rankings – Week 13 (Jan. 31)

AP & ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls

After going 1-1 last week, the UConn Huskies men’s basketball team slipped one spot in the AP Poll to No. 6 and two spots in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll to No. 7.

The top five this week looks a little different with the Kansas Jayhawks, Texas Longhorns, Pittsburgh Panthers and Duke Blue Devils (barf) rounding out the top five in both polls.

Joining the Huskies and Panthers from the Big East in the top ten are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (9/8). Also in the top 25 from the Big East are the Villanova Wildcats (12/12), Georgetown Hoyas (13/14), Louisville Cardinals (15/13) and the Syracuse Orange (17,17).

The West Virginia Mountaineers are ranked No. 25 in the AP Poll but are the second team receiving votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.  The Marquette Golden Eagles are the only team from the Big East to be among the others receiving votes in both polls while the Cincinnati Bearcats and St. John’s Red Storm are only receiving votes in the AP Poll.

2011 NCAA Men’s Basketball Rankings – Week 12 (Jan. 24)

AP & ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll

After going 2-0 last week, the UConn Huskies men’s basketball team has moved up three spots in both polls after being ranked No. 8/8 last week. Joining the Huskies in the top five in order are The Ohio State Buckeyes, Pittsburgh Panthers, Duke Blue Devils and San Diego State Aztecs.

UConn and Pitt are joined in the top 10 of both polls by Big East brethren Villanova (8/7) and Syracuse (9/10).  Also in the top 25 from the Big East are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (15/14) and Georgetown Hoyas (21/20).

The Cincinnati Bearcats and West Virginia Mountaineers are the only teams from the Big East among the others receiving votes in both polls.

AP & ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls

In just a half hour or so, the UConn Huskies men’s basketball team will take on the No. 7/7 Villanova Wildcats after moving up two spots in the AP Poll to No. 8 and one spot in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll also to No. 8.

Joining the Huskies and Wildcats in the top 10 of both polls are the Syracuse Orange (3/3) and the Pittsburgh Panthers (5/4). Also in the top 25 from the Big East in both polls are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (16/16), Louisville Cardinals (19/15) and Georgetown Hoyas (T23/23). Also ranked in the AP Poll are the West Virginia Mountaineers at No. 21 and Cincinnati Bearcats at No. 25.

The St. John’s Red Storm are the only Big East team receiving votes in the AP Poll while West Virginia and Cincinnati are the only Big East teams receiving votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

2011 NCAA Men’s Basketball Rankings – Week 10 (Jan. 10)

AP & ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls

After a 1-1 week that saw games against two top-15 opponents, the UConn Huskies have dropped two spots in the AP Poll to No. 10 while in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, the Huskies stayed at No. 9. The top seven teams are the same from last week.

Also joining the Huskies from the Big East in the top 10 are the Syracuse Orange (4/4), Pittsburgh Panthers (5/5) and Villanova Wildcats (7/7). The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are No. 10 in the AP Poll but are No. 11 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

Also in the top 25 from the Big East are the Louisville Cardinals (18/17) and Georgetown Hoyas (22/19). The Cincinnati Bearcats are No. 25 in the AP Poll but dropped out of the ESPN/USA Today Poll and are the second highest team in the others receiving votes there.

The West Virginia Mountaineers are the only other team from the Big East in the others receiving votes in both polls.

2011 NCAA Men’s Basketball Rankings – Week 9 (Jan. 3)

AP & ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls

After falling to the Pittsburgh Panthers in the Big East opener last week, the UConn Huskies men’s basketball team has fallen from fourth in both polls to No. 8 in the AP Top 25 and No. 9 ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. The top three teams from last week remain the same.

Joining the Huskies in the top ten from the Big East are the Syracuse Orange (4/4), Pittsburgh Panthers (5/5) and the Villanova Wildcats (7/7). Also in the top 25 from the Big East are the Georgetown Hoyas (13/13), Notre Dame Fighting Irish (15/15) and the Cincinnati Bearcats (24/25). The Louisville Cardinals are ranked No. 23 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and are the top team receiving votes in the AP Poll.

2010 Men’s Basketball AP All-America Teams

The AP announced their Men’s Basketball 2010 All-America Teams on Monday and of course we aren’t going to find any members of the UConn Huskies on it.

Instead, we find five members of the three teams that hail from the Big East. They are Wesley Johnson of Syracuse (1st team), Scottie Reynolds of Villanova (1st team), Da’Sean Butler of West Virginia (2nd team), Greg Monroe of Georgetown (3rd team) and Luke Harangody from Notre Dame (3rd team).

2010 NCAA Men’s Basketball Rankings (Mar. 1)

Coupled with their win over Villanova on Saturday night and the top three teams in the polls losing, the Syracuse Orange are the new No. 1 team in the land as the regular season winds down.

Joining the Orange from the Big East in the top 10 are Villanova and West Virginia. Georgetown and Pittsburgh also find themselves in the top 25 as well.
