Best Football Cleats Ever!

I saw these during the pre-game show of the Cincinnati/Indianapolis NFL game last night. Only Chad Johnson could think of doing this. On the cleats, he took pictures of all of his touchdown catches this season and had them made into cleats. Of course the NFL fashion police made him go into the locker room and change them. I am sure we will be reading about another fine for Ocho Cinco at some point this week.

Women’s Basketball Game Rained Out

On Monday night, the women’s basketball game between Arizona State and Texas Tech at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona was rained out with just over 4 minutes to play in the game. Arizona State ended up winning the game 61-45.

The reason for the rain-out. They left the roof open at Chase Field. The game was supposed to be played outdoors but even knowing the forecast they left the roof open. The game time temperature was 56 degrees. The NCAA allowed the players to wear long sleeves under their uniforms and some players were even wearing gloves on the bench.

The grounds people pulled the tarp to cover the court before it got to wet because there wasn’t enough time to get the roof shut. But because the floor got too wet, the game was cancelled and Arizona State was awarded the victory.

This was just the second outdoor basketball game ever. The last one was between the Tennessee women and Arizona State back in 2000 at Chase Field (formerly the BOB at the time.)

We Are Marshall

For those who have never heard the story, there is a great movie being released on December 22nd. It is called We Are Marshall. It is about the true story of the 1970 Marshall Football Team who when traveling back from a football game in North Carolina, their plane crashed killing 75 of the players and coaching staff. As the whole Huntington, West Virginia area struggled with the loss, one man, Jack Lengyel, was determined to rebuild the program and help a community in need.

Here is the trailer from the movie:

Matthew McConaughey plays the character of Jack Lengyel. From all accounts I have read and heard, “Mr Longhorn” is excellent in this film. Speaking of McConaughey, here is a clip of Matt Damon, doing his best McConaughey impression:

When Is Winter Going To Arrive?

Well I am sure at some point, we here in New England will experience some real winter weather. Let’s just hope our luck isn’t as bad as this guys:

This is why a car starter would be the perfect Christmas gift this year. No, this was not a hint to anyone.

Number 1 Crop

Well the picture here gives the answer away, but would you really think that Marijuana would be the number 1 cash crop in the United States? Personally, I would have thought it was corn or wheat. Definitely not the maryjane!

A report, “Marijuana Production in the United States,” written by Jon Gettman found that the marijuana production in the United States was around $35.8 billion dollars. The next two crops, corn and wheat, didn’t even combine to match that total ($23.3 billion for corn and $7.5 billion for wheat).

What this does now is open the talk for the legalization of marijuana by pot activists. Right now all the money from the sale of marijuana here in the United States goes to the people who will sell it not the US Government. Legalization would allow the Government to collect tax monies which could be used for things that were beneficial rather than support the drug lords and drug dealers extravagant life styles. The tax money could be used for educational purposes. It would also cut the amount of money spent on the law enforcement side of things.

There will be a lot of debate about the legalization as the study gets read by all sides. We all have to remember one thing. Marijuana is still a drug. Yes I know alcohol is a drug and is regulated by the Government but marijuana is a different animal. Also if it were to be legal, how do we tax the people who bring it illegally into the country now.

Knicks-Nuggets Fight Suspensions

Well the NBA isn’t taking this fight too lightly at all. On Monday, the NBA handed down the suspensions and fines for all the players involved in the melee.

Carmelo Anthony was suspended 15 games for sucker punching Mardy Collins. Nate Robinson, NY Knicks, and J.R. Smith, Denver Nuggets, were suspended 10 games each for their altercation in the fracas. Also suspended from the NY Knicks was Mardy Collins for 6 games, Jared Jefferies for 4 games, and Jerome James, 1 game for leaving the bench during the fight. Also suspended from the Denver Nuggets was Nene, who received a 1 game suspension for leaving the bench as well. Both teams were also heavily fined, $500,000 dollars.

Said NBA commissioner David Stern:

“It is our obligation to take the strongest possible steps to avoid such failures in the future and to make a statement to all who follow the game of basketball that we understand our obligations and take them seriously.”

Also coming to light during this was a statement that Isiah Thomas had made to Carmelo Anthony about 20 seconds before the altercation began. Thomas had warned Anthony not to go into the lane before this had happened.

Anthony publicly apologized for his role in Saturday night’s fracas.

“Last night’s altercation with the Knicks escalated further than it should have. I take full responsibility for my actions in the matter. My actions were inexcusable, and I am sorry for making this an even more embarrassing situation.”
