Moore, Huskies Crush The Orange

There’s just something that gets Maya Moore going when her UConn Huskies team takes on the Syracuse Orange. Last year, Moore put up a career-high 40 points in UConn’s big win.

And on Wednesday night, she added a career-high of 21 rebounds to go along with a season-high 38 points as the No. 1 Huskies easily dispatched of the Orange 87-66 in front of 3,320 at the Carrier Dome on Wednesday night.

It’s the 67th straight win for the Huskies who improve to 28-0 (14-0 Big East). More importantly, the Huskies clinch at least a share of the Big East title. The Orange fall to 19-8 (6-8 Big East).

Video: Marco Scutaro Ready For 2010

Ever since the Boston Red Sox traded Nomar Garciaparra back in 2004, it’s been a revolving door of shortstops with Alex Gonzalez having two chances. Rather than picking up the option of Gonzalez, the Red Sox went out and signed Marco Scutaro during free agency.

Scutaro, who became an everyday player last year with the Toronto Blue Jays, sat down with Tom Caron and Peter Gammons on Wednesday at the Fort to talk about his excitement of playing for the Red Sox and the chance to play in the playoffs.

Mike Lowell Holds Court With the Media

For the first time in five years, Mike Lowell will not be your starting third baseman for your Boston Red Sox. The question remains if he’ll even be a part of the 25 man roster when the Red Sox break camp.

Last year, the Red Sox almost had to trade Lowell if they had acquired current Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira in free agency. During the offseason this year, Lowell was very close to being a member of the Texas Rangers. But an injury to his thumb caused the deal to be nixed.

2010 NCAA Women’s Basketball Rankings (Feb. 23)

For the 40th consecutive week, the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team finds itself sitting atop the AP Poll and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. Sitting right behind them are the Stanford Cardinal, whose only loss  this season came against the Huskies.

The Hartford Hawks, coached by former UConn All-American Jen Rizzotti, have been ranked in the Coaches Top 25 for the past two weeks but now find themselves in the AP Top 25 as well at No. 24.
