Clay Buchholz is focused on winning a job in the starting rotation when the Boston Red Sox break camp at the end of spring training.

He spent part of the 2009 season in the minor leagues with the Pawtucket Red Sox where he was dominant. He went 7-2 in 17 games (16 starts) with a 2.36 ERA in 99 innings.

Buchholz earned a promotion to the Red Sox and was 7-4 with a 4.21 ERA in 16 starts. But he was strong down the stretch and was impressive during the playoffs. But with the Red Sox signing John Lackey in the offseason, it’s not known where he’ll be this season.

If anything, he deserves a chance at a spot in the rotation and knowing Terry Francona like we do, he’ll get that chance.

On Thursday at the Red Sox minor league development complex, Buchholz took a few minutes to talk about his role with the Jimmy Fund, his offseason and the upcoming 2010 season.
