Update on Matsuzaka Negotiations

First off, I am using this picture again because I like it so much. Now on to our feature presentation.

On Monday night, Mr Asshole, Scott Boras, held a press conference to let the world know what he thinks the value of Daisuke Matsuzaka

“is worth well in excess of $100 million.”

Matsuzaka was not present for the press conference. Boras added that their will be meetings with the Boston Red Sox over the next few days to try and get the deal done. Basically what he wants for his client is a 6 yr $100 million dollar contract stating that this is what Matsuzaka would get if he were a free agent. Well Scott, I hate to break it to you but he’s not. He’s still under contract with the Seibu Lions who will get him back if the Red Sox do not sign him.

If the Red Sox were to give in and give him this money. It would mean that they have paid $151,100,000 million dollars for a guy who has never pitched in the big leagues. For some reason, I see them settling around the $12-13 million a year mark because rumors are the Red Sox were willing to go as high as $10 million per year.

“In Japan he’s known as the national treasure,” Boras said. “Here he will be known as Fort Knox.”

Theo Epstein, Larry Lucchino, and John Henry are out in beautiful Southern California for what will probably be the longest 3 days of their lives. They have until Thursday night, Dec 14th, to get a deal done. As more word comes about this whole grueling process, I will let you know but for now I leave you with this quote as to why Boras called the press conference:

“I think this is the American way.”

American way? My ass. The American way is not being a greedy fuck ahole. All you are concerned with is your money Mr Boras. You say its up to Daisuke to decide whether or not he signs. Well your the one providing the advice. I hope when your driving home tonight you realize what a prick you are.

I apologize for my use of foul language in this post but it’s upsetting when one person is ruining the hopes and dreams of an entire nation. That nation being Red Sox nation.

Matsuzaka Negotiations

Well it seems as though negotiations with Daisuke Matsuzaka and his agent Scott Boras have broken down because Boras is a selfish prick.

Boras has not really been interested in dealing with the Red Sox since the initial offers. Boras wants $15 million a year for his client while the Sox were in the $6-7 million dollar range. Given the fact that mediocre pitchers such as Gil Meche, 5 yrs $55 million from the KC Royals, are getting large contracts, the Red Sox are in an awkward position. They have already dished out $51.1 million dollars for the rights just to negotiate (The money does get returned if they don’t sign Matsuzaka). So if they do get a deal done with him, it’s going to cost them well over $100 million for a player who has never pitched a MLB game.

Boras is not happy with the way the posting system works. I think he’d rather see Matsuzaka play over there 2 more years and then cash in. Of course that means more money for him too. The Sox would realistically have to get the deal done by Tuesday to get him in town on Wednesday for a physical and signed before the deadline on Thursday. Is this gonna happen? I sure as heck hope so. My hopes aren’t up though.

Bring Back the Whale!

This one is more the local readers but for those of you who are hockey fans, I am sure you will remember one of the better fighters in the NHL at the time, Kelly Chase. Chase also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Blues during his fight-filled NHL career.

Troy Smith Wins Heisman Trophy

On Saturday night, Troy Smith, QB of The Ohio State, won the Heisman Trophy in a landslide over Darren McFadden, Arkansas RB, and Brady Quinn, QB of Notre Dame. He won by the second largest margin of victory, 1,662 more points than Darren McFadden. OJ Simpson has the largest margin with 1.750 points in 1968.

The Heisman Trophy is given annually to the Most Outstanding College Football Player by the Downtown Athletic Club. The trophy has been given every year since 1935.

Smith becomes the fifth Buckeye to win the trophy. The Buckeyes actually have six Heismans as Archie Griffin is the only person to win the award in back to back years. Heisman winner Troy Smith and The Ohio State Buckeyes will now try to win the National Championship against Florida on January 8th, 2007.

Why Women Hate Sports

Well its a slow sports day around these parts as all the UCONN Huskies teams are on final exams break and the Red Sox have nothing new to report. So I decided to go thru Youtube looking for some funny videos for now and future use. So enjoy.

Red Sox News

In Boston Red Sox offseason news, former closer Keith Foulke has declined salary arbitration from the Red Sox. Foulke reportedly declined the salary arbitration so that he could sign with a team closer to his family and his home in Arizona.

This leaves the Sox without a closer for next year still. There are reports circulating that they will more than likely sign Eric Gagne to a contract and hope he can return to his past form after 2 years of battling elbow problems. I think I’d rather see Papelbon back closing games next year before I see this.
