While the pitchers and catcher held their first official workout at Boston Red Sox camp on Saturday, the positions players who arrived early took advantage of that and worked out themselves. One of the players who arrived on Saturday was “new” left fielder Jacoby Ellsbury.

If you hadn’t heard, Ellsbury will be wearing No. 2 this year, which just happens to be NESN analyst and former Red Sox player Jerry Remy’s number.

Already a member of the Carl Everett’s Crazy Hall of Fame here on the site for a fight while a member of the Long Island Ducks, Jose Offerman has once again done something asinine.

He punched an umpire during a Dominican winter league game.

Something tells me that Offerman may need to take some anger management classes. Either that or be locked up a in a padded cell for a very long time.

Update 1/18: Offerman has been suspended by the Dominican winter league for life.

Gordon Edes Top 10 Ten Boston Red Sox Players of the Decade [ESPN Boston]

The 2009 MLB.com This Year in Baseball Awards are out and only one member of the Boston Red Sox took home an honor. And that player is center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury who was named Defensive Player of the Year.

Besides being a stolen base machine, Ellsbury has the knack to make the amazing diving catch on occasion. Ellsbury had .994 fielding percentage in the outfield and had 357 putouts.

Here’s a couple of his catches from the 2009 ALCS against the Angels.
