New Haven Coliseum Imploded

On this cold, windy Saturday morning on the shores of Connecticut, the New Haven Coliseum was finally imploded after years of delays. The New Haven Coliseum had been home to numerous sports teams including the New Haven Nighthawks, New Haven Senators, Beast of New Haven, the New Haven Knights, and the New Haven Ninjas. The Nighthawks, Senators, and Beast were members of the AHL (American Hockey League), the Knights were members of the UHL (United Hockey League), and the Ninjas were members of the AFL2 (Arena Football League).

The New Haven Coliseum also has hosted various wrestling events, concerts and tradeshows over the years. The final event that was held at the Coliseum was a WWE event in 2002. The last concert there was a TOOL show. Other famous musical acts that played there include Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Van Halen (my first ever concert), Kiss and Aerosmith. Here is the video of the implosion.

RIP Officer Robert Fumiatti

On early Tuesday morning, New Haven, CT Police Officer Robert Fumiatti passed away from apparent heart attack. He was 35 years old. For those who don’t know his story, Officer Fumiatti was shot back in 2002 during a drug bust raid. He was shot in the face and the neck. After surgeries, the bullet remained near his spine.

After an extensive rehabilitation, Officer Fumiatti returned to the New Haven Police Force in 2004 where he was currently working. My prayers and condolences go out to his family and to the New Haven Police Department.

Just Some Ramblings

Well the Randy Johnson deal is all but official. The Yankees will announce the deal on Tuesday. There hasn’t been any news on the JD Drew front. Word was they were going to try and work the deal out this past week but nothing ever came of it. Hopefully, they get this deal done soon. Candace Parker could end up being a better college player and maybe even better player than Diana Taurasi ever was. CP is much more athletic than Diana. UCONN women need to step up their game and play 40 mins. They also need to do a better job of getting Mel Thomas open. The UCONN men need to learn to shoot free throws. If I am Jim Calhoun, each players needs to make 100 in a row or they stay til they do. Patriots looked good today in the Belimangina Bowl. Give Joel Pinero a chance to close. Odds are he won’t be the closer after July anyways unless he’s going lights out.

Christmas in East Haven

For those of you who have never heard this song, it is a pretty funny Christmas song about one of my neighboring towns that used to be played on a local radio station here KC 101.

Roger Clemens Poll Results

Well the readers have spoken and 40% of you don’t care where Roger Clemens plays next season. 31% of you think he should sign in Boston. 13% of you think he should play for the Yankees and 10% of you thinks he should retire.

Personally while I think it would be great if he was to sign with the Red Sox, I don’t think it is going to happen. For one, the Red Sox would definitely want him to pitch for most of the season. Secondly, can they afford to give him $20 million dollars for 1/2 to 3/4 of a season.

Realistically I would look for Clemens to sign with the Yankees or retire. With his good buddy Andy Pettite in New York now, you might think he would want to follow him there. They do share the same agent. There is also the possibility though of him staying with the Astros organization because his son Koby plays in their minor league system. All 3 of those options present interesting possibilities.

Stay tuned!

When Is Winter Going To Arrive?

Well I am sure at some point, we here in New England will experience some real winter weather. Let’s just hope our luck isn’t as bad as this guys:

This is why a car starter would be the perfect Christmas gift this year. No, this was not a hint to anyone.

Number 1 Crop

Well the picture here gives the answer away, but would you really think that Marijuana would be the number 1 cash crop in the United States? Personally, I would have thought it was corn or wheat. Definitely not the maryjane!

A report, “Marijuana Production in the United States,” written by Jon Gettman found that the marijuana production in the United States was around $35.8 billion dollars. The next two crops, corn and wheat, didn’t even combine to match that total ($23.3 billion for corn and $7.5 billion for wheat).

What this does now is open the talk for the legalization of marijuana by pot activists. Right now all the money from the sale of marijuana here in the United States goes to the people who will sell it not the US Government. Legalization would allow the Government to collect tax monies which could be used for things that were beneficial rather than support the drug lords and drug dealers extravagant life styles. The tax money could be used for educational purposes. It would also cut the amount of money spent on the law enforcement side of things.

There will be a lot of debate about the legalization as the study gets read by all sides. We all have to remember one thing. Marijuana is still a drug. Yes I know alcohol is a drug and is regulated by the Government but marijuana is a different animal. Also if it were to be legal, how do we tax the people who bring it illegally into the country now.
