PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced winners of the league’s first weekly women’s basketball honors for games ending Nov. 23.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

american2Breanna Stewart * F * 6-4 * Jr. * UConn

Stewart averaged 24.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in a pair of matchups for No. 1/4 UConn. The forward shot 64.3 percent (18-for-28) from the field, connected on 60-percent (6-for-10) of her 3-point attempts and had a double-double in each game last week. Stewart had 23 points and 10 rebounds in the Huskies’ overtime loss at No. 6/6 Stanford before scoring a game-high 25 points in a win over Creighton on Sunday. The junior added 10 rebounds and dished out four assists with no turnovers while shooting a perfect 10-for-10 from the floor against the Bluejays.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Kolby Morgan * G * 5-8 * Tulane

Morgan recorded her third straight game in double figures, scoring a team high 13 points to help Tulane defeat LSU in Baton Rouge on Wednesday. The freshman converted three clutch free-throws with under a minute remaining to seal the road win for the Green Wave. Morgan added three rebounds, two assists and two steals in the victory over the Tigers.

Brittni Montgomery * C * 6-3 * R-Sr. * UCF

Scored a career-high 22 points vs. Stetson; averaged 16.5 points and 11.5 rebounds last week.

Jessieka Palmer * G * 6-0 * Jr. * Houston

Scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half in a win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi; shot 55.6 percent from the field last week.

Kia Nurse * F * 6-0 * Fr. * UConn

Had 22 points, two steals and two assists in a win over Creighton; shot 6-for-7 from the field vs. the Bluejays.
