2011 NCAA Football Rankings – Week 2 (Sept. 6)

AP & USA Today Coaches Poll

After a weekend full of college football, the AP & USA Today Coaches Polls are out and there’s no changes at the top of either poll as the Oklahoma Sooners are still at the top. There are changes below them though in the top 5.

In AP Poll, the Sooners are followed by the LSU Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Boise State Broncos and Florida State Seminoles. In the Coaches Poll, the Sonners are followed by the Crimson Tide, LSU, the Seminoles and Boise State.

The only Big East team ranked in the top 25 of both polls are the West Virginia Mountaineers. With their big win over Notre Dame on Saturday, the South Florida Bulls jumped in to the AP Poll at No. 22. They are the second team among the others receiving votes in the Coaches Poll.

The Pitt Panthers are the only team from the Big East receiving votes in the AP Poll while the Cincinnati Bearcats join South Florida from the Big East receiving votes in the Coaches Poll.

2011 BlogPoll Top 25 Ballot – Week 2

As many of you know, I am one of the voters in the BlogPoll Top 25. Each week, bloggers across the country representing the various FBS schools get together and put together their own top 25’s. Here at SOX & Dawgs, we are representing the UConn Huskies. The votes are then tabulated on Mondays (this week it’ll be Tuesday) .

Each week we are asked to do an initial ballot. This allows you the reader to let us know in the comments whether you agree with my choices or not. The initial ballots will normally be done on Sunday. But with a game on Monday night, I waited to submit my first ballot.

After I check the comments for the initial ballot, I then resubmit my final ballot for the week. If there are comments, I’ll take them into consideration before submitting the final ballot by 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

You can check out the ballot I submitted earlier today by clicking on the read more button below if you’re on the homepage.

After seeing the polls last year, I’m now one of those people who thinks the polls shouldn’t come out until a few weeks into the season. We haven’t seen any of these teams play yet.

But let me know if you agree with my picks. Otherwise, this will be the ballot I submit in on Monday.

2011 AP College Football Preseason Poll

Just like they were in the 2011 USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll, the Oklahoma Sooners find themselves on top of the 2011 AP College Football Preseason Poll that was released on Saturday morning.

AP PollThey are followed by the Alabama Crimson Tide, Oregon Ducks, LSU Tigers and Boise State Broncos.

Unlike the coaches poll, there is one team from the Big East ranked. And that is the West Virginia Mountaineers who come in at No. 24. The Pitt Panthers are the only team from the Big East in the others receiving votes.

Once the season starts, the two polls will be posted side-by-side to compare the rankings.

2010 NCAA Football Rankings – Postseason

AP & USA Today Polls

By virtue of winning the BCS National Championship Game on Monday night, the Auburn Tigers finish as the top team in both the AP and USA Today Polls. The TCU Horned Frogs, who beat the Wisconsin Badgers in the Rose Bowl, finish in second place receiving three first place votes in the AP Poll and one in the USA Today Poll.

The Oregon Ducks, Stanford Cardinal and The Ohio State Buckeyes round out the final top five of the 2010 season.

There were no teams from the Big East ranked in the top 25 of either poll. My UConn Huskies dropped out of the AP Poll but did receive eight votes from the writers. They also received seven votes from the coaches.

The only other team from the Big East to receive votes in both polls was the West Virginia Mountaineers.

The Winner of the 5th Annual SOX & Dawgs Bowl Spectacular Is…

Fifth Annual SOX & Dawgs Bowl Spectacular

Bloguin brother Blatant Homerism, who picked 25-of-35 games correctly for 438 points. College Wolf from the TWolves Blog finished a very close second with 436 points. In case you were wondering, I finished in 8th place.

It did come down to the final day as my father, who won last year, had Oregon and 35 points. Had Oregon been able to complete the comeback victory, my father would have jumped over everyone and taken home the prize once again.

But a big congratulations goes out to Blatant Homerism for taking home the title.  For his efforts, Allen has won a $25 gift certificate from Amazon.com.

A big thank you to everyone for participating in the contest. And thank you for your support of SOX & Dawgs. Without you, the site wouldn’t exist.

Initial BlogPoll Top 25 Ballot – Week 16

As many of you know, I am one of the voters in the BlogPoll Top 25. Each week, bloggers across the country representing the various FBS schools get together and put together their own top 25’s. Here at SOX & Dawgs, we are representing the UConn Huskies. The votes are then tabulated on Wednesdays.

Each week we are asked to do an initial ballot. This allows you the reader to let us know in the comments whether you agree with my choices or not. The initial ballots are due at by noon each Monday.

After I check the comments for the initial ballot, I then resubmit my final ballot for the week. If there are comments, I’ll take them into consideration before submitting the final ballot at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

You can check out the ballot I submitted earlier today by clicking on the read more button below if you’re on the homepage.
