I know it is New Year’s Eve and everyone is probably out partying but for those of you who are watching television, don’t flip to ESPN. This is what you will see.

I actually had to turn the channel because it hurts the eyes to watch for a long period of time.

Are you curious to know what else the players get when they participate in college football bowl game. Well, NCAA rules allow a ‘goodie’ bag to contain up to $500 dollars worth of items.
The gifts include watches, coins, IPOD’s, cameras, rings, etc etc.
Check out each bowl’s swag after the jump.
For those who have never heard the story, there is a great movie being released on December 22nd. It is called We Are Marshall. It is about the true story of the 1970 Marshall Football Team who when traveling back from a football game in North Carolina, their plane crashed killing 75 of the players and coaching staff. As the whole Huntington, West Virginia area struggled with the loss, one man, Jack Lengyel, was determined to rebuild the program and help a community in need.
Here is the trailer from the movie:

Matthew McConaughey plays the character of Jack Lengyel. From all accounts I have read and heard, “Mr Longhorn” is excellent in this film. Speaking of McConaughey, here is a clip of Matt Damon, doing his best McConaughey impression:

On Saturday night, Troy Smith, QB of The Ohio State, won the Heisman Trophy in a landslide over Darren McFadden, Arkansas RB, and Brady Quinn, QB of Notre Dame. He won by the second largest margin of victory, 1,662 more points than Darren McFadden. OJ Simpson has the largest margin with 1.750 points in 1968.
The Heisman Trophy is given annually to the Most Outstanding College Football Player by the Downtown Athletic Club. The trophy has been given every year since 1935.
Smith becomes the fifth Buckeye to win the trophy. The Buckeyes actually have six Heismans as Archie Griffin is the only person to win the award in back to back years. Heisman winner Troy Smith and The Ohio State Buckeyes will now try to win the National Championship against Florida on January 8th, 2007.

Well i passed this along (top half) to my friends at Deadspin and they decided not to use this one as there were alot of good sports stories out there this weekend. Anyways the picture to the left was a prank done by Virginia Tech fans the night before the annual Commonwealth Cup game held each year between Tech and the University of Virginia. Seems some unknown Virginia Tech fans snuck into Virginia’s stadium and painted the T on the field next to the V on the field. My understanding of the situation was that it took the groundskeepers about 3 hrs to get the T completely off the field. Which in my experiences from working in minor league baseball leads me to believe that they tried to wash it off instead of going to get a few cans of Field Green paint and just spray painting over it. A good prank but not as classic as what some Yale students pulled off at least years Yale-Harvard game. That story is better left told by the website which you can get to by clicking the link above. Just think about people, these Yalies are going to be our future leaders of America. Somewhere in the US, George Bush is probably proud of his alma mater, Yale, for those of you who didn’t know that.
