Final 2011 BCS Standings

The final BCS standings are out for the 2011 season and it will be the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide playing for the BCS National Championship on January 9, 2011 in New Orleans, LA.

BCS standingsLSU ran the gamut on the season as the No. 1 team in the BCS rankings. Alabama had been No. 2 at one point, fell down in the rankings, only to climb back to No. 2.

Despite their best efforts in their convincing win over Oklahoma last night, the Oklahoma State Cowboys didn’t jump up to No. 2 in the standings. Two Pac-12 teams, the Stanford Cardinal and Oregon Ducks, round out the top five.

The only team ranked in the final BCS standings from the Big East is the West Virginia Mountaineers at No. 23. By virtue of being the highest ranked team in the Big East, they’ll represent the conference in a BCS bowl since they shared the Big East title with Cincinnati and Louisville.

You can head over to the BCS website to see how the poll is computed weekly and how the teams are selected for the BCS bowls.

2011 BlogPoll Top 25 Ballot – Week 15

As many of you know, I am one of the voters in the BlogPoll Top 25. Each week, bloggers across the country representing the various FBS schools get together and put together their own top 25’s. Here at SOX & Dawgs, we are representing the UConn Huskies. The votes are then tabulated on Tuesday.

Each week we are asked to do an initial ballot. This allows you the reader to let us know in the comments whether you agree with my choices or not. The initial ballots will normally be done on Sunday.

After I check the comments for the initial ballot, I then resubmit my final ballot for the week. If there are comments, I’ll take them into consideration before submitting the final ballot by 8 a.m.on Tuesday.

You can check out the ballot I submitted earlier today by clicking on the read more button below if you’re on the homepage.

My only note is that I moved Oklahoma State to No. 2. I felt as though the Cowboys based on their numbers against top 25 teams this year warranted them being No. 2 in my final regular season poll.

2011 NCAA Football Rankings – Week 15 (Dec. 4)

AP & USA Today Coaches' Polls

The final regular season rankings are out for college football and after their come-from-behind win in the SEC Championship, the LSU Tigers finish the season as the No. 1 team and will definitely being playing for the BCS National Championship on January 9, 2012 in New Orleans, LA.

If the polls are any indication, they’ll be playing the Alabama Crimson Tide who are No. 2 in both polls. But we won’t know until the final BCS standings come out tonight.

LSU and Alabama are followed by Oklahoma State, Stanford and USC in the AP Poll. In the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, they are followed by Oklahoma State, Stanford and Oregon.

The West Virginia Mountaineers are the only team from the Big East ranked in both polls at 23/22. The Cincinnati Bearcats are ranked No. 24 in the coaches’ poll and are among the others receiving votes in the AP Poll.

The Louisville Cardinals are among the others receiving votes in the AP Poll while the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are among the others receiving votes in the coaches’ poll.

In case you were wondering, here’s how I voted this week:

1. Trent Richardson , Alabama – RB: I have to continue my what have you done for me lately theme here in the voting and that’s only because RG III got injured. Had he not, he’d probably still be No. 1. But that honor goes to Richardson. He’s been overlooked by me and many others but his statement game of 203 yards against Auburn opens your eyes. On the season, he’s rushed for 1583 yards and 20 touchdowns. He’s also caught three touchdown passes.

2. Case Keenum, Houston-QB:  Keenum kept up the strong numbers last week throwing for 457 yards and five touchdowns against Tulsa. He’s led his team to an undefeated season and possibly a BCS berth if the cards fall right for the Cougars. The most impressive number to be though isn’t his 4,726 passing yards and 47 touchdowns, it’s his three interceptions thrown. I’d be shocked if he isn’t among the finalists.

3. Montee Ball, Wisconsin-RB:  Ball definitely has been overlooked here by me and it’s probably because he had been playing in Russell Wilson’s Heisman candidacy shadow. Ball has been putting up astounding numbers all season long and that was no different against Penn State where he ran for 157 yards and 4 touchdowns. He’s got a total of 34 touchdowns on the season (29 rushing, 5 receiving) and has rushed for 1,622 yards.
