Video: Ross Doubles Red Sox Past White Sox

Relief pitcher Koji Uehara #19 (L) and catcher David Ross #3 of the Boston Red Sox celebrate their win over the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field on April 17, 2014 in Chicago, Illinois.

While the season is still young, the Boston Red Sox have only won one series so far in 2014. After last night’s win, you can make that two.

David Ross‘ RBI double in the 9th inning scored Mike Napoli to put the Red Sox ahead for good in a 3-1 win over the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.

Jonathan Herrera added the final run on a bases loaded safety squeeze bunt. Xander Bogaerts got the visiting nine on the board with a solo home run in the 6th inning breaking up the no-hitter of Chris Sale.

Jon Lester was outstanding on the mound as he went eight innings, allowing just the one run on seven hits while striking out nine. Koji Uehara returned from his shoulder issues to pick up his third save of the season.

First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. The game will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the White Sox market, you can catch the game on CSN Chicago +. And if you can’t catch the game on television, you can always listen on the 2014 Red Sox Radio Network.

Jon Lester takes to the bump for the fourth time in 2014. In his previous three starts, Lester is 1-2 with a 2.57 ERA (6 ER/21 IP). Seven of those starts have come at U.S. Cellular where he is 4-3 with a 4.20 ERA.

Chris Sale makes his fourth start of 2014 looking to stay perfect. In his previous three starts, Sale is 3-0 with a 2.66 ERA (6 ER/2o.1 IP). He last faced the Red Sox in 2011 when he made three appearances and had no record with a 0.00 ERA and a save. Red Sox to Commemorate Anniversary of the 2013 Boston Marathon Tragedy Sunday Evening

BOSTON, MA – The Red Sox will pay tribute to last year’s marathon tragedy in a ceremony before their 7:05 p.m. game this Sunday, April 20, at Fenway Park. The brief tribute is set to begin at approximately 6:30 p.m. ESPN is scheduled to televise the game.

Boston Red Sox Alternate JerseyThe club intends to acknowledge the support that has come to Boston from across the nation in the aftermath of the tragedy, illustrate how far some of the wounded have come in the past year, and salute the heroes who saved lives and have helped the city heal.

The ceremonies will include a remembrance of Krystle Campbell, Martin Richard, Lingzi Lu, and Officer Sean Collier.

The University of Massachusetts Marching Band and the Boston Pipers Society will perform a piece called “Highland Cathedral,” and they will also perform the national anthem as the crowd sings along together. Members of the Boston Police Department, Watertown Police Department, and Massachusetts State Police will carry the colors.

A series of canvases bearing inscriptions of good will from all 50 United States, along with all Major League Baseball teams and members of Congress, will line the outfield warning track.

Sunday’s Ceremonial First Pitch will honor civic and business leaders who quickly and successfully started the One Fund Boston. John Hancock Financial Services, which was instrumental in its creation, is a presenting sponsor of this weekend’s games.

On Patriots Day, the Red Sox will present a traditional 11:05 a.m. game, inaugurating a new tradition, with “Boston” appearing on the front of the Red Sox home jerseys, as it did for the first time on last year’s Marathon tribute at Fenway Park on April 20, 2013.

Gates open 1 ½ hours before the games. The four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles begins Friday evening at 7:10 p.m. and continues Saturday afternoon at 1:35 p.m.

As always, and especially during Patriots Day weekend, the Red Sox encourage fans to take the T and use the new Commuter Rail options. In addition to the Kenmore and Fenway stops on the MBTA’s Green Line, the new Yawkey Station on the Commuter Rail’s Framingham/Worcester line now offers 40 regularly scheduled stops per day.

Mohegan Sun Arena to Host 2015 American Women’s Basketball Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has awarded the 2015 American Women’s Basketball Championship to Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., Commissioner Mike Aresco announced today.

American Athletic Conference“The American Athletic Conference and its member institutions are excited to return to a venue that demonstrated tremendous support for our women’s basketball tournament,” Aresco said. “Attendance was outstanding, the facility is first-rate, and the Mohegan Sun staff provided a great experience for our student-athletes, coaches and fans, who we know will enjoy a return visit next year.”

Mohegan Sun Arena will serve as the host of The American’s women’s basketball championship for the second straight year. Home to the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, the 10,000-seat arena has hosted championship boxing, college and professional men’s and women’s basketball, Davis Cup tennis, professional bull riding and professional bowling. The WNBA All-Star Game has been hosted by Mohegan Sun Arena four times.

“We are thrilled that we will be bringing the American Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament back to Mohegan Sun Arena,” said Mitchell Etess, President and CEO of Mohegan Sun. “Our first year was a huge success. We are delighted to continue the relationship, and grow this great event moving forward.”

All 11 American Athletic Conference schools will participate in the 2015 championship. The format calls for three first-round games on the first day, followed by four quarterfinal games, two semifinals and the championship game. The ESPN Networks will provide television and digital coverage of the tournament.

The 2014-15 season will be the second straight year in which the American Athletic Conference has the defending men’s and women’s NCAA champions in its ranks. The American was the only conference to place a team in the semifinals of the Men’s Final Four, the Women’s Final Four, the NIT and the WNIT last season.

The American’s membership in 2014-15 will include UCF, Cincinnati, UConn, East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, USF, SMU, Temple, Tulane and Tulsa.

Video: JBJ Doubles Red Sox To 6-4 Win Over White Sox

Extra innings baseball in cold weather is no fun. Unless you win of course.

Jackie Bradley Jr. #25 of the Boston Red Sox gets the game-winning hit, a two run double in the 14th inning, against the Chicago Whtie Sox at U.S. Cellular Field on April 16, 2014 in Chicago, Illinois. The Boston Red Sox had two chances to do just that against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night. Unfortunately Edward Mujica blew his first save (where art thou Koji) in the 11th after his team had given him the load.

But lucky enough for Mujica and the Red Sox, the rookie, Jackie Bradley Jr, delivered a clutch two-run double in the 14th inning to give the Red Sox a 6-4 win over South Siders.

Clay Buchholz started this one for the Red Sox and allowed three runs (two earned) over six innings of work. Chris Capuano picked up the win after 2.2 innings of scoreless, one-hit ball with Burke Badenhop earning the save.

Dustin Pedroia had two hits in his return to the lineup. Xander Bogaerts and Jonny Gomes each had a hit and a RBI. Grady Sizemore and A.J. Pierzynski added the other RBIs on sacrifice flies.
