ESPN analyst Bobby Valentine has been around the game of baseball for a long time so you would think he knows the player’s names. After all, isn’t it his job to know them especially if he’s going to announce them.

Well when it came time for him to make his choice during the 2010 State Farm Home Run Derby last night, Valentine went with Jose Ortiz. Of course Chris Berman and Joe Morgan didn’t correct him, they just let him keep going.

At least Bobby V. picked a winner last night as his pick Jose Ortiz otherwise known as Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz won the Home RunĀ  Derby with 11 home runs in the finals over former Red Sox farmhand and current Florida Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez.

Here’s the video of Valentine calling him Jose Ortiz for your enjoyment:

At least after watching this, people will understand why we may continue to call Big Papi “Jose Ortiz”.
