Sox trade for Hinske, sign Pena

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h9/ibethune/randomthoughtsblog/pena.jpg

The Sox in search of some left handed power off the bench traded for 1B/OF Eric Hinske from the Toronto Blue Jays and also signed away Carlos Pena from the NY Spankees AAA affiliate in Columbus. It is unsure what the Red Sox gave up to get Hinske who was a late scratch from Toronto’s game tonight. (I was wondering why he wasn’t in my fantasy lineup tonight after being listed as starting.)

The Sox haven’t announced who Hinske is going to replace on the active roster or quite what his role will be. I do envision that he will be able to give Youk or Lowell a night off here and there or be a platoon partner with Willy Mo Pena out in right. If Hinske isnt in the starting lineup, he will be a lefty bat off the bench which the Sox so need. Carlos Pena will report to AAA Pawtucket and one can only assume he will be up in Boston when rosters expand on Sept 1 or earlier if there is an injury.

Want a divorce or breakup with your bf/gf?

I know that most of my posts are about sports related stuff but this is something that has caught my eye. If you are looking to either get divorced or breakup with your bf/gf, get your own MTV reality show.In a trend started by Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro, Shanna Moakler and Travis Barker, have followed suit in planning on getting divorced. While Nick and Jessica’s divorce is final, the other two couples have just recently filed papers to end their nuptials.

Also, Lauren Conrad, of The Hills and formerly of Laguna Beach, and Jason Wahler have called it quits. I think this makes the 100th time they have broken up so we shall see about this one. Also from Laguna Beach, Kristin Cavallari had reportedly broken up with her bf, Brody Jenner, one of the Princes of Malibu.

So folks, what does this tell you? It says, get your own MTV reality show if your looking for the perfect way to get a divorce or breakup with your significant other.

Blog gets a little more pub

While its nothing new to me that I got mentioned on Deadspin.com as I have been an avid reader of the blog since it’s birth. My reason for letting everyone know that I was mentioned on Deadspin, is more for the new readers of the blog than the loyal few. As I start to spend more time reading and blogging, I do hope the readers will go up. It’s not like I have that much to do with my time as I recover from the car accident two years ago.

Yesterday while perusing USATODAY.com, I found an interesting article about a DIV II school in Texas, Texas A&M-Commerce was interested in Rhett Bomar, former Oklahoma Sooner QB. For those who haven’t heard, Bomar was kicked out of school for accepting gifts from working a job at a car dealer. Basically the gifts were accepting money for time not spent at work. Ah the life of a D 1 football powerhouse QB.

Anyways, a special thanks to The Mighty MJD, for the pub and another special thanks goes out to the loyal readers. And a Texas sized welcome, no pun intended, to the new readers. Feel free to peruse the site and be sure to vote for your favorite (hottest) UCONN’s women’s bball player for the 2006-2007 season. If you got the time, go back to the early archives and check out some of my earlier work.

Javy Lopez to the Red Sox

In a deal done today, Javy Lopez has been traded to the Red Sox for a mid-level minor league prospect. The only hold up with the deal right now is getting the player the Sox are trading thru the waiver wire.

With Jason Varitek going down for 4-6 weeks with knee surgery and the Red Sox trading Kelly Shoppach to the Indians in the Coco Crisp deal, really had no catching help to back up Doug “Wakefield” Mirabelli.

Lopez became expendable to the Orioles this year as they had signed Ramon Hernandez to a deal with the hopes of Javy DH’ing and occasionally spelling Hernandez. Javy was upset over the lack of playing time and had requested a trade. His request for a trade couldn’t have come at a better time for the Red Sox. Since the Sox stood pat during the annual July trading deadline, and the recent injuries to Varitek and Nixon, a big chunk of the Sox line up was missing. Javy brings plenty of experience to the Sox being a part of most of the 15 straight NL East championships for the Atlanta Braves.

While Javy won’t replace Varitek’s leadership, he will give the Sox an ample replacement at catcher for time being. This will also take some pressure off Mirabelli when Wakefield returns from the DL to help the Sox in the stretch run to the playoffs.
