Here is an update to the J.D. Drew situation that comes to you courtesy of the Redsoxtimes.com thru MLB Trade Rumors.com. The author at RST, Tim, also has a great article on the Red Sox Virtual Waiting Room for tickets.
“He tells me that Drew has seen two surgeons for his shoulder, one requested by Scott Boras and the other by the Red Sox. It appears that one of the surgeons may have been Dr. James Andrews.
The likely result? A one-year clause similar to the one the Tigers gave Magglio Ordonez. The Red Sox would be able to opt out after the first season if Drew goes on the DL because of the shoulder. In the case of Maggs, Detroit could’ve voided the contract after ‘05 if he spent 25 days on the DL for his formerly troublesome left knee. There is no sign that Drew will end up anywhere other than Boston.â€
So are the Red Sox making a mistake? Honestly, I sure hope not. I am still not sold on Willy Mo Pena as an everyday player until he starts hitting consistently. Plus I think J.D. Drew batting behind Manny is a whole heck of a lot better than Willy Mo or Trot batting there. Knowing the Red Sox luck at times, something tells me Drew will end up on the DL at some point for something other than a shoulder injury.

Are you curious to know what else the players get when they participate in college football bowl game. Well, NCAA rules allow a ‘goodie’ bag to contain up to $500 dollars worth of items.
The gifts include watches, coins, IPOD’s, cameras, rings, etc etc.

In their final game before a short Christmas break, The UCONN Lady Huskies defeated the Oakland (MI) Golden Grizzlies by the final score of 85-53. Leading the way for the Huskies was Kalana Greene, who had 14 pts and a career high 13 rebounds. Brittany Hunter added 13 pts and 9 rebounds in 10 minutes before leaving the game after aggravating her right knee.
Notes and Observations:
With the win, the Lady Huskies move to 9-0 on the season. Next up for the Huskies is the University of Hartford Hawks, coached by former UCONN great Jen Rizzotti, on Friday December 29th at the Hartford Civic Center.

After spending $207.5 million dollars on player’s salaries in 2006, the New York Yankees got their $26 million dollar luxury tax bill from the Commissioner’s office on Friday. The Boston Red Sox were a distant second and the only other team to have to pay the luxury tax this season ($497.5 thousand dollars). In the four years since the luxury tax has been introduced, the Yankees have now had to pay $96 million dollars total.
To put that in perspective for you, all of the 2006 Florida Marlins didn’t make $26 million dollars. Collectively as a team, they made around $15 million dollars. Basically, the Yankees are paying two of A-Rod’s salaries in one season and still getting nothing.
Ouch! You have to pay all that money and you don’t even win the World Series. That’s gonna leave a mark.

UCONN announced on Friday that the men’s basketball game with Coppin State on Wednesday, December 27th, will be available for webcast. The company doing it, XOS Technologies, will be using the feed from the Hartford Civic Center video board.
The catch you ask. It’s gonna cost you $7.95 if you want to watch it. The reason why is ESPN and the Big East control the rights to the game. And since the game isn’t being picked up by anyone locally or nationally, this is the only way to see the game unless you have a ticket.
Good thing is that this is the last time, we as Huskies fans have to worry about this as the rest of the games are on local and/or national television the rest of the way.

Former Red Sox closer, Keith Foulke, is set to sign a 1 year deal with the Cleveland Indians. The deal will be a 1 year deal with possibly a club or mutual option for another year. He will compete with Joe Borowski for the closer position.
What I don’t get is this. Foulke wanted to sign a deal with a team that was closer to his home in Arizona. While Cleveland is a lot closer to Phoenix than Boston is, Foulke signing there just doesn’t make sense. The closer position in Boston was probably his had he resigned there since there is really no competition for the job right now. Yes they didn’t exercise his option nor did he exercise his but he had a chance to make a little less money to play on a very competitive club. I guess the Indians think they have a chance in the AL Central next year.

Well the readers have spoken and 40% of you don’t care where Roger Clemens plays next season. 31% of you think he should sign in Boston. 13% of you think he should play for the Yankees and 10% of you thinks he should retire.

Personally while I think it would be great if he was to sign with the Red Sox, I don’t think it is going to happen. For one, the Red Sox would definitely want him to pitch for most of the season. Secondly, can they afford to give him $20 million dollars for 1/2 to 3/4 of a season.
Realistically I would look for Clemens to sign with the Yankees or retire. With his good buddy Andy Pettite in New York now, you might think he would want to follow him there. They do share the same agent. There is also the possibility though of him staying with the Astros organization because his son Koby plays in their minor league system. All 3 of those options present interesting possibilities.
Stay tuned!
