Britney Spears Update: Back In Rehab Edition

According to published reports everywhere in the world, Britney Spears reentered the Promises Malibu Alcohol and Drug Rehab Treatment Facility in Malibootie on Wednesday night. She reportedly met with ex-hubby Kevin Federline last night to talk about what was going to happen with the children. Basically what happened was that Britney agreed to let K-Fed have the children while she was in rehab for whatever she is addicted to. The program lasts 45 days.

K-Fed cancelled the emergency hearing for Thursday and agreed not to pursuit it if Britney got the help she needed. Federline has told Spears that if she doesn’t stay in rehab this time, he will go to the courts and ask for full custody of their kids. Spears wanted to see their kids last night but Federline apparently wouldn’t let her.

Earlier in the day on Thursday, Britney’s father, Jaime spoke with Fox News and had this to say about his daughter: Spears is “a sick little girl.”

Earlier on Wednesday night, Britney had a nice run-in with the paparazzi. Click here to see her attacking a photographer’s SUV. Make sure to watch the video there as well.

This is the third time she has entered rehab in the past week. I truly hope that she does what is best for her first and foremost so that she can be a wonderful mom to her two sons, Jayden James and Sean Preston.

Breaking News: Anna Nicole Smith Ruling In

After a week or so of court proceedings, Circuit Judge Larry Seidlin has ruled that the guardian ad litem, Richard Millstein, for the baby of Anna Nicole Smith has been awarded custody of the remains of Anna Nicole Smith. The judge wants her buried with her son in the Bahamas.

Before the audio feed was cut off, you could hear the lawyers for Anna Nicole’s mother saying that she wanted to appeal the decision.

There is no word yet as what Millstein will do. He had asked the judge if he could use the courtroom and chambers to meet with all the interested parties.

About an hour after the preceedings were over, Howard K. Stern, Larry Birkhead and Virgie Arthur (mother of Anna Nicole) presented a unified front and spoke that Anna Nicole will be buried in the Bahamas. When they were asked about the funeral arrangements, they said they could not talk about it.

Red Sox Spring Training Update

Here is your daily dose of Red Sox spring training news from Wednesday.

J.D. Drew is in town. He actually arrived late last night and took part in the workout today. Drew met with the media after the workouts and was asked how he thought his shoulder would hold up:

”Absolutely,” he said when asked if his shoulder would hold up throughout that time. ”I’ve been in a situation over the last three years where I’ve changed some things in the way I kind of manage myself off the field and that’s really paid off.

He was also asked about his relationship with Curt Schilling. Schilling was a member of the Phillies when J.D. Drew was originally drafted by them in 1997. Drew had wanted $10 million dollars to sign but the Phillies never met the offer and Drew was signed and drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals the following year. Schilling had asked the Phillies fans to boo Drew when he came to town. They did that and as Philly fans would took it to another level. They threw the kitchen sink, dildos, batteries, toilet paper, and rolls of coins. Drew responded by blasting a 434 foot homerun and a single and triple with a stolen base.

“I saw him today on the treadmill,” Drew said. ”Those days seem just like yesterday and you look back and it’s been, what was it, 10 years ago or so? It’s going to be completely fine.”

It is good to see that whatever rift that was between them in the past is gone. It was also good to hear that he feels his shoulder will hold up. Drew doesn’t play the field as aggressively as Trot Nixon did so it will be interesting to see how the Red Sox fans take to this. We are accustomed to the hard-nosed play of Nixon out there and will only expect the same from Drew.

If you want to watch Daisuke Matsuzaka’s first game in a Sox uniform, you’re in luck. NESN has added the March 2nd game vs the Boston College Eagles at 6:00 PM to it’s schedule. While the whole game might not be shown due to NESN’s commitments with the Boston Bruins. I know I will be tuned in to watch the game.

Speaking of Matsuzaka, manager Terry Francona spoke out on his workout regimen. It is a lot different than other Red Sox pitchers. From the Boston Globe:

Manager Terry Francona, who has not watched either of Daisuke Matsuzaka’s bullpen sessions, acknowledged yesterday that the Japanese pitcher, who is accustomed to doing considerably more throwing than his American counterparts in spring training, will continue to do so here. Matsuzaka followed his first session Sunday by throwing long toss Monday, which customarily would be a day off here.

Francona had this to say about Matsuzaka:

Matsuzaka threw long toss from 220 feet Tuesday while most pitchers took the day off. “I’ve never seen someone throw the ball that long,” manager Terry Francona said.

Whatever they have to do with Dice-K is fine by me. As long as he is comfortable here, I will be happy. Of course about 15-20 wins from him would be nice too.

Britney Spears Update: Escape from Rehab Edition 2

Can things get any worse for Britney Spears? Well according to just about every news outlet in America and the world is reporting that ex-hubby Kevin Federline has filed for an emergency hearing on custody of their two children. They previously shared custody of the two children. He is now asking for sole custody and spousal support.

Here is some interesting news from Perezhilton.com about the happennings of Britney on Friday night.

Terrified she’d lose custody of her sons, Britney tried to kill herself twice in the hours after shaving her head Friday night.

According to The National Enquirer, Spears tried to take her own life by walking into traffic, only to be rescued at the last second by her staff.

But that wasn’t the end of Britney’s self-destructive evening.

A short time later she was rushed to a doctor, as various media outlets reported, and the Enquirer reveals the reason – she kept saying she was going to kill herself and then taking too many Xanax.

“After she shaved off her hair, Britney had a complete breakdown and tried to kill herself,” an insider told The Enquirer.

The reported reason that she feared losing her sons was that K-Fed had said she would lose them if he asked for a hair drug test to be done. Fearing that, she shaved her head. He is not currently letting her see the children. I don’t blame him on this at all. They could be in danger with her right now.

You have to check out this list of job requirements that were posted when Britney was looking for a nanny:

  • Personal Over Professional

“Britney didn’t ask me one thing about my child-care experience. She only wanted to know about my personal life.”

  • Friend Wanted

“The agency that called me emphasized that Britney was looking for a nanny who was young and hip because they wanted her to interact with people her own age. Basically, Britney wanted a friend.”

  • Must Like Naked Bosses

“Britney asked me and one of her nannies to come to her room to watch her try on outfits for a party one night – then she stripped down naked in front of us!”

  • Must Act As Surrogate Mom

“One nanny told me that Britney will hold her kids for 10 minutes and then say, ‘I’m done now. You can take them.'”

  • Don’t Be Too Good

“She doesn’t like when Sean prefers the nanny, so she fires them and looks for a new one.”

All I can say is this. I feel sorry for her children. Somewhere down the road, someone is gonna say your mommy tried to kill herself and was strung out on drugs.

Kudos to Craig Ferguson, host of the ‘Late, Late Show’, for not making jokes about Spears. For those of you who don’t know, Ferguson is 15 yrs sober.

UCONN Men Win Ugly Against Rutgers

Well UCONN fans, if you are accustomed to going to the Big East Tournament in NYC and used to seeing your Huskies play on Thursday, well make arrangements to be there. Just make them for a day earlier than normal. Jerome Dyson led the Huskies in scoring again as they defeated the Scarlett Knights of Rutgers to clinch a berth in the Big East Tournament. Dyson had 17 points and Jeff Adrien chipped in 14 points. AJ Price also hit double figures with 10 points. For Rutgers, they were led by Adrian Hill and JR Inman who both scored 15 points. Inman had missed the previous game against UCONN with an injury.

The first was rather ugly as both teams had trouble scoring and Rutgers got out to the early lead. Rutgers got the lead up to 8 at 22-14 before a 14-1 run in the last 5 minutes by the Huskies gave them the halftime lead at 28-23.

UCONN built the lead up to 12 in the second half but an 11-0 run by Rutgers got them within 1 point. UCONN’s last basket came at the 4:20 mark but they made 9 of 10 free throws down the stretch to provide the final margin of victory.

Note and Observations:

  • The starters were Price, Dyson, Robinson, Thabeet and Adrien.
  • Dyson, who is tied with Adrien for the team lead in scoring at 13 points a game, is the first freshman since Corny Thompson in 1979 to lead the Huskies in scoring.
  • The scoring attack was balanced for UCONN. Besides the three mentioned above, Curtis Kelly added 9 and Thabeet added 8.
  • Stat of the night: Thabeet, who is a 50% free throw shooter was 4 for 4 from the line. He also had 5 rebounds and added 4 blocks to the cause.
  • Kelly was perfect from the floor (3 for 3) and was outstanding in his play tonight. He could be someone who could be counted on down the stretch.
  • Adrien led the team with 7 rebounds.
  • It was good to see AJ Price bounce back with a good shooting night (4 of 6 from the floor, 2 for 2 from 3 point land).
  • Even though UCONN shot 72% (21 of 29) from the free throw line, as I mentioned above, they were 9 of 10 down the stretch. This is something I have been writing strongly about; Making free throws, especially down the stretch.

It wasn’t pretty but nonetheless, it goes into the record books as a W. With the win the Huskies move to 17-10 (6-7 in the Big East). The win also clinched a spot in the Big East Tournament. Next up for the Huskies is a nationally televised date (CBS) against Rick Pitino’s Louisville Cardinals on Sunday afternoon at noon at the Hartford Civic Center.

Britney Spears Update: Escape from Rehab Edition

According to TMZ.com, it seems as though Britney Spears has left a Los Angeles area rehab facility after just one day. The usual stay at this facility lasts 45 days. So needless to say, she obviously isn’t rehabilitated yet.

More news is being shed as to why she may have shaved off her head. It is being reported that the father of her two children, Kevin Federline, was going to ask for a hair drug test. So this could be one of the reasons why she was going to do it. Other reports say that she was pulling out her hair because she was upset with the men in her life. She was reportedly upset over K-Fed and Justin Timberlake bonding at the Grammy’s and her ex boyfriend, Issac Cohen, was going to reportedly sell secrets of their romance.

During these little outbursts at home, she was brought to the hospital and given sedatives and antidepressants. Well for those of who are or have taken antidepressants, you all know that they don’t work quickly. The sedatives though, could explain why she looked strung out on something when she was shaving her head. I would have to think that her shaving her head was a crying out for help. But that doesn’t explain why she left the rehab facility.

All this is is the life of child star going to the crapper.

Red Sox Spring Training News

Here is a some news out of the Boston Red Sox spring training from Sunday and Monday.

New Red Sox shortstop Julio Lugo arrived to camp on Monday, a day ahead of schedule. The official reporting day for Sox position players was Tuesday (Collective Bargaining Agreement states the latest a player can arrive is March 1st). If you’d like to listen to what Lugo had to say to the media, you can listen below.[coolplayer width=”200″ height=”50″ autoplay=”0″ loop=”0″ charset=”GBK” download=”1″ mediatype=””]
Julio Lugo Interview

When asked about Manny Ramirez arriving to camp on March 1st, Red Sox manager Terry Francona said he was not going to say anything. He hadn’t talked to Manny and wasn’t going to speculate on anything. Smart move Francona. It’s best to have the facts before making a comment.

The following pitchers threw in the bullpen on Monday: Manny Delcarmen, Julian Tavarez, Brendan Donnelly, Joel Piñiero, J.C. Romero, Runelvys Hernandez, Craig Breslow, Craig Hansen, and Javier Lopez. All but Timlin and Tavarez were heard popping the mitts of the catchers.

Kevin Youkilis and Mike Lowell arrived to camp on Monday as well. Youk was seen sporting a goatee with a bald head. It will be interesting to me how Lowell responds after being mentioned in the trade rumors with the Colorado Rockies about Todd Helton.

Covelli “Coco” Crisp, who was bald last season, showed up to camp on Monday sporting an afro. No word on whether he is using jerry curl. If you were ever wondering how Coco got his nickname, check out what he said.

My grandmother called me “Co” for short. My real name is Covelli, and then once my sister and my god brother got a whiff of the cereal Cocoa Krispies, they started calling me that and making fun of me. My nickname started as a big joke and I didn’t like it at first. But then it started catching on and everyone started calling me Coco so I got used to it. It resurfaced again in Double-A when they put it on the scoreboard and now I like it. I’ve just adopted it as my nickname. It helps me stick out in the crowd. When I go on the road people love to say the name. It’s also easier to pronounce than Covelli.

If you were wondering where Coco played Double-A, it was in New Haven for the New Haven Ravens where I used to work. It was given to him by my friend, Sam Rubin, who was the scoreboard operator and webmaster. Sam has written two books, ‘Yale Football‘ and ‘Baseball in New Haven‘, and currently works for Yale Athletics.

Francona said on Sunday that Mike Timlin would be included in the closer race and could be the closer when the team leaves Ft. Myers if the role hasn’t been decided. Only Jonathan Papelbon (35 saves) and the recently retired Keith Foulke (47 saves) have saved more games than in Timlin’s time (25 saves) with the Red Sox.

Theo Epstein was on the WEEI’s Dennis and Callahan show on Tuesday and talked about many things. One of the things he addressed was the Curt Schilling contract situation. This is what he had to say about it:

“I have little doubt in my mind that if Curt wants to pitch in ’08 that he’s going to be a member of the Boston Red Sox.

As far as the timing of the deal, or the nature of the deal, that remains to be seen,” Epstein said. “He’s sort of at the point in his career where, as an organization, we’ve been slower to commit guaranteed money in the future. We tend to like guys to kind of prove it at that age but, you know, we’re talking and I’m sure there will be an amicable resolution one way or the other.”

Newly re-signed Wily Mo Peña arrived at camp on Tuesday a little late. The reason being he went to the stadium where they will play their games and not the minor league camp. I guess $1.875 million isn’t enough money to get the right information or directions to where your supposed to be.
