Reunited and It Doesn’t Feel So Good

The Roger Clemens watch is now over. During the 7th inning stretch of the Yankees-Mariners game, he announced that he is returning to pitch for the Evil Empire. It will be about a month before he is ready to pitch in New York.

“Thank you all. Well, they came and got me out of Texas, and uh, I can tell you, it’s a privilege to be back. I’ll be talkin’ to you all soon.”

Honestly, the Yankees do need him more than any team in baseball right now. Their pitching staff has been decimated by injuries.

Friggin Yankees!

Update: The terms of the deal were announced. He will receive a prorated $28 million dollar contract for one year. So for each month, he will make $4.5 million dollars.

I guess it was about the money huh Roger.

Twins Bailed Out By Bullpen; Beat Sox 2-1

On a night where Johan Santana Julian Tavarez had his best stuff, the Red Sox bats decided to go cold when they had runners on base. They stranded 12 runners on base and the Twins bullpen preserved the lead it was given and they beat the Sox 2-1.

Santana was awful on Saturday. The Sox got to him for seven hits but only a Dustin Pedroia double down the left field line in the 4th that scored Wily Mo Peña was the only run the Sox could score. Santana ended up going a season low 5 innings, allowing the 7 hits and 1 run while walking 2 and striking out 6 Sox batters.

Tavarez did get into some trouble in the 2nd inning when both Twinkies runs crossed the plate. Torii Hunter led off the inning with a ground out to Pedroia. The reigning AL MVP, Justin Morneau, hit a single, the only ball that Tavarez allowed out of the infield. He then walked Jason Kubel and Jeff Cirillo to load the bases up. Light hitting Jason Tyner grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Morneau. Jason Bartlett then drove in the winning run with an infield single to Mike Lowell at 3rd base.

Overall though, Tavarez was outstanding. He went 6 innings, allowing only 4 hits, and the 2 runs. He did walk 3 Twins and struck out 7. Joel Piñero came in and pitched two perfect innings.

After Santana left the game, it was all about the Twins bullpen. Four Twins relievers combined to pitch 4 shutout innings, allowing no hits. They did walk 4 and also struck out 4 with Joe Nathan coming in to finish the Red Sox off.

Pedroia and the hot hitting Manny Ramirez both managed to get two hits each off Santana.

The Simple Life: Paris Goes To Jail

If you’re Paris Hilton, you received some bad news yesterday. Paris was sentenced to 45 days in jail for violating her probation. The probation stems from when she was arrested last year for reckless driving. She had her license suspended and has been caught by the paparazzi driving her car while under suspension. She also failed to enroll in a court mandated alcohol program. She has to report to a woman’s jail by June 5th or face 90 days in jail. The judge also said she can’t pay for a cushier jail cell. So Paris won’t be spending her days in a country club jail. She will be just another inmate.

While she’s there, she will be fed three squares a day and even be able to gab on pay phone and watch television. My guess is she stays in her cell and writes more awful music.

Curt Schilling talks about his start on Tuesday and Papelbon’s blown save.

Wakefield’s Knuckleball Was Dancing Like A Star

Take away the elements and Tim Wakefield’s knuckleball can be downright nasty. The Minnesota Twins are probably wishing they played outside after facing Wakefield on Friday night.

Wake went seven strong innings and Big Papi hit a bomb into the upper deck to lead the Sox past Sooze’s Twins by the final score of 2-0. In his seven innings, Wake allowed 3 hits and walks and struck out 2 Twinkies. He didn’t allow a runner to get past second base. His teammates haven’t been much help as far as run support in his starts but the two runs were enough to get the job done.

The Sox finally got on the board in the 6th when Big Papi hit a 423 foot homerun into the upper deck at the Metrodome off of Carlos Silva. Silva pitched very well too for the Twins.

The Sox tacked on another run in the top half of the 9th inning when J.D. Drew hit a triple and came home to score on a Coco Crisp single. Jonathan Papelbon came on in the 9th to finish the Twinkies off.

My Name Is Rudy

We all remember the movie ‘Rudy’ and the great speech Charles S. Dutton’s character gave to Sean Astin aka “Rudy” when he was thinking about quitting the football team. Well during last night’s episode of ‘My Name is Earl’, Dutton recreated that speech but this time it was given to Jason Lee’s character ‘Earl’.

To me what made the scene was when the “dockers” came into the Mr Waadt’s office and wanted to buy appliances to help Earl reach his total of $5,000 in sales. It was just like the movie when the captains of the Notre Dame football team walked into Coach Dan Devine’s office and gave up their spots on the roster. Oddly enough, Astin was in the show as a salesperson and Mr. Waadt was played by Chelcie Ross, who played Devine in the movie.

This is the clip from ‘Rudy’.
