Calling Simon Cowell

With the World Series on FOX you’re getting more promos for “American Idol” than TBS has “Frank TV” ads. With that in mind I have the latest person to go all “William Hung” on us. Saturday night during Game 3 of the World Series, U.S. Air Force Staff Sargent Jody Johnson sung “God Bless America”. And I use the term “sung” loosely. Who the hell is picking the singers to do this stuff on the biggest stage? Did she bribe someone? Does she have naked pictures of Pat Gillick and Charlie Manuel holding hands and skipping together? Is she sleeping with Davey Lopes? Did Brett Myers bitch slap her and to avoid charges and a lawsuit the Phillies said “wanna sing?”
The whole time while I was watching S/Sgt. Johnson butcher one of America’s most enduring songs I was waiting and hoping against hope that Simon Cowell would jump out of Joe Maddon’s fur lined hat and critique her performance.
I’m sorry I missed Patti LaBelle butcher the National Anthem before Game 4. Because that was a doozy.
Wes Welker…Cranberry King

Oh I saw this on the Patriots website and I just couldn’t resist. Seems Patriots WR Wes Welker was helping out for a demonstration of an Ocean Spray Cranberry Bog outside Patriot Place this past week.
That’s A Lot of Benjamins

Or should I say that’s a lot of Ramirez’s.
According to the New York Post, the Los Angeles Dodgers have offered Manny Ramirez a 2-year $60 million dollar contract. That offer isn’t likely to get the job done though as I’m sure Manny and his agent, Scott Boras, will be looking for at least 4-year deal in the neighborhood of $120 million.
I can tell you one team that probably won’t be interested in Manny’s services, the Boston Red Sox.
In Case of Emergency, Break Glass
Or just hit someone into it as you’ll see here when Boston Bruins left wing Milan Lucic crushes Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mike Van Ryn and breaks the glass during the Maple Leafs 3-2 win over the Bruins on Thursday night.
And yes I know we don’t cover hockey here hardly at all but this is a great hit whether you’re a hockey fan or not.
There were four fans who were injured, 2 of which had to go to the hospital for the cuts they suffered.
Rob Lunn Has Some Advice For Us
If you haven’t checked out UConn Huskies defensive lineman Rob Lunn’s blog, Thoughts From a Fat White Guy, you are missing some great stuff. Yesterday, Lunn offered up some valuable advice for the men in the world.
If your girlfriend ever tells you she is comfortable with you farting in front of her. Approach this situation with caution (extreme caution if you are 285lbs+). Lets chalk it up to me taking one for the “team”. Don’t do it. It will only end badly (“the type of fart that could end a marriage…”)
Ummm either that’s TMI (too much information) or a thank you is in order?????
Breaking News: Morris Out 2-3 Weeks

According to a NFL source New England Patriots running back Sammy Morris will miss 2-3 weeks of action with a knee injury he suffered Monday night against Denver.
Running back LaMont Jordan is also expected to miss his 3rd consecutive game with a calf injury on Sunday as well. And with Laurence Maroney now on the injured reserve, and done for the season, that leaves New England with three healthy backs in Kevin Faulk, BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Heath Evans for Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Rams.
Miles To Play For College of Southern Idaho Eagles
Nate Miles will be playing college basketball this season, just not in a UConn Huskies uniform as we already know.
After being expelled from UConn a few weeks ago, Miles is now enrolled at the College of Southern Idaho to play basketball. He will be eligible to start playing in the second semester for the Eagles.
“We looked into Nate’s situation and saw an opportunity for him to play for us in the second semester,” CSI coach Steve Gosar said. “Nate really wants to play this year. He said if an opportunity was there for him to play, that’s what he wanted. We have an open scholarship.”
Miles will be taking a full course load at CSI and will take online classes to catch up since he’s been out of school for nearly a month now.
Unfortunately for Miles, a return to UConn could be out of the question as his appeal was rejected. He has one last shot to gain re-admittance to UConn when he’ll go in front of the UConn Board of Trustees sometime in November.
No Love For Pedroia From MLB Players

The MLB players have spoken and their 2008 AL MVP in the Major League Baseball Players Association’s Player’s Choice Awards is Josh Hamilton from the Texas Rangers. He beat out of the likes of Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau and the Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia.
Hamilton had a monster year for the Rangers hitting .304 with 32 home runs and 104 RBI. Morneau hit .300 with 23 home runs and 129 RBI while Pedroia hit .326 with 17 home runs, 83 RBI and 20 stolen bases. Pedroia also led the league in runs scored with 118.
