UConn Huskies Women’s Basketball Continues to Soar on SNY

Here's a press release from UConn and SNY about the latest ratings for the UConn Huskies women's basketball coverage on SNY:

NEW YORK – On the heels of UConn’s victory over Georgetown, SNY, the official television home of the UConn Huskies Women’s basketball program, today announced that the game averaged an 8.52 household rating – the network’s highest rating of the season.  This ratings benchmark also signifies the highest household rating in nearly two years for the program in the Hartford-New Haven DMA (UConn-Syracuse, 9.1 household rating on 2-28-11).  In addition, the game ranked as the #1 program in its time period – beating all competitive sports programming airing in the market – including ESPN’s NBA Double Header.  UConn-Georgetown on SNY also topped all network prime time series last night in the Hartford-New Haven DMA – except ABC’s Modern Family (9.05 household rating).

UConn on SNYSNY’s pre-game and post- game coverage – featuring Kara Wolters and host Gary Apple – also posted strong household ratings in the Hartford-New Haven DMA for last night’s contest.  The network’s pre-game show delivered a 3.61 HH Rating (+56% over the 2.32 STD average household rating).  The Post-Game show presented by People’s United Bank delivered a 2.90 HH Rating (+5% over the 2.76 STD average household rating).

In its inaugural season carrying the UConn Huskies Women’s basketball program, SNY has unveiled an unprecedented 340+ hours of exclusive programming – including comprehensive pre-game, half-time and post-game shows as well as its critically acclaimed Huskies All- Access Show.  As a result, SNY has helped the UConn Huskies Women’s basketball program grow significantly in popularity as the team’s television household ratings have increased +18% thru SNY’s first nine games in the Hartford-New Haven DMA.

On Saturday, January 12th, SNY will feature an UConn basketball doubleheader with the Men’s team playing Notre Dame at 2:00pm – followed by the UConn Women’s basketball team facing Marquette at 4:00pm.

Video: UConn Women Rebound With 75-48 Win Over Hoyas

Connecticut head coach Geno Auriemma reacts to a call in the second half against Georgetown at McDonough Gymnasium Wednesday night.

Not every game the UConn Huskies women's basketball team plays is going to be pretty. But this win was down right ugly.

In a game that saw almost as many turnovers as Georgetown Hoyas points, UConn bounced back from their loss on Saturday with a 75-48 win in front of a crowd of 2,387 at McDonough Arena in Washington, DC on Wednesday night.

The Huskies improve to 13-1 and pick up their first Big East win of the season (1-1). The Hoyas fall to 10-5 (1-1).

Kelly Faris led the way for UConn with 15 points and also had four rebounds, four assists and five steals. Stefanie Dolson added 13 points, five rebounds and a team-high five assists while Bria Hartley added 12 points.

After a poor start to the game, Breanna Stewart finished strongly as she picked up a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Moriah Jefferson had a nice game off the bench with nine points and a team-high seven steals.

Georgetown was led by Sugar Rogers who had 23 points and nine rebounds. Andrea White and Sydney Wilson both chipped in with nine points a piece.

Given the way UConn lost on Saturday, you would have expected them to come out like a well oiled machine like they normally do after a loss. That was far from the case as they played sloppily at times committing 19 tunrovers. Of course Georgetown wasn't much better with 26 turnovers.

When you look at the box score of those who saw significant time in the game, only Jefferson from UConn and Vanessa Moore and White from Georgetown didn't commit a turnover.

I was definitely impressed by how Stewart bounced back though after the slow start. This is going to happen to her as she goes through the growing pains. But each time she gets down, she comes back stronger and this can only help the Huskies going forward.

UConn will stay on the road as they head to Milwaukee, WI on Saturday afternoon for another Big East matchup with the Marquette Golden Eagles. Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Video: UConn Men Pound DePaul, 99-78

Coming off the disappointing loss against Marquette a week ago, you knew after a week of practice, the UConn Huskies men's basketball team was going to come out and give everything they had.

They did that and more as it was a complete team effort in a 99-78 rout of the DePaul Blue Demons in front of 9,156 at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, CT on Tuesday night.

The Huskies improve to 11-4 and pick up Kevin Ollie's first career Big East win (1-1). DePaul falls to 10-6 (1-2).

University of Connecticut Huskies forward DeAndre Daniels #2, scores two of his career high 26 points during the second periodAfter being benched in the loss to Marquette for his lack of rebounding effort, DeAndre Daniels bounced back strong. He finished with a career-high 26 points to go along with a team-high tying eight rebounds.

Ryan Boatright added 16 points while Shabazz Napier had a fine all-around game with 16 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four assists. Even Tyler Olander got into the action with 10 points and five rebounds. Enosch Wolf had a nice game off the bench with eight points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots.

Brandon Young led all scorers in the game with 35 points and had five assists. One time UConn commit, Cleveland Melvin added 18 points, five rebounds and five blocked shots.

This was by far the best game UConn played all season long.

They dominated the glass outrebounding the Blue Demons 49-29. And every time DePaul tried to get back into it in the second half, UConn responded.

This is the type of effort we expected from the Ollie coached team. We've seen it at times this season but not for 40 minutes like Tuesday night.

They'll need to continue this going forward as the competition in the Big East will get tougher. And that will start on Saturday afternoon when they travel to South Bend, IN for a matchup with the No. 17/16 Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
