Video: Workman Strong in Red Sox 1-0 Win Over Orioles

Teammates greet Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Brandon Workman (67) as he walks off the field at the end of the sixth inning of a baseball game against the Baltimore Orioles, Tuesday, June 10, 2014, in Baltimore.

Teammates greet Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Brandon Workman (67) as he walks off the field at the end of the sixth inning of a baseball game against the Baltimore Orioles, Tuesday, June 10, 2014, in Baltimore.

The Boston Red Sox are reeling right, there’s no doubt about that. They’ve had issues with the backend of their rotation between Clay Buchholz and Felix Doubront. Brandon Workman and Rubby De La Rosa have been filling in for them while they heal up from their respective injuries.

De La Rosa’s sample size is too small right now but Workman’s hasn’t been. In each of his three previous starts, he’s given the Red Sox some solid work. Last night was no different.

Workman allowed no hits over 5 ⅔ innings before allowing a single to Ryan Flaherty. He would end up going 6 ⅔ innings and the bullpen would do the job the rest of the way as the Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 1-0 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Tuesday night.

The interesting part about Workman’s longest outing of his 27 game big league career is the fact that he had to wait out two rain delays in the 2nd inning. The first one was 15 minutes long while the second one lasted one hour and 18 minutes.

Andrew Miller, Junichi Tazawa and Koji Uehara combined to finish off the O’s with Uehara picking up his 13th save of the season.

Mike Napoli provided the only run of the night when he singled in Brock Holt from second base in the 3rd inning. Holt continues to provide a spark at the top of the lineup as he went 2-for-5 with a run scored. A.J. Pierzynski also had two hits.

Orsillo & Remy To Get Mid-Season Vacation

This just in from NESN:

Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo will each get a week-long break this season, consistent with what many regional sports networks do for their MLB broadcast teams. The schedule for Remy and Orsillo is listed below:

Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo NESN Bobbledesk

Jerry Remy break – June 19 to June 27

Dennis Eckersley will fill in for Remy on the west coast road trip to Oakland and Seattle and for one game in New York on Friday, June 27th (Saturday & Sunday games in NY are on FOX and ESPN respectively). Remy will return to the booth on Monday, June 30th.

Don Orsillo break– July 11 to July 19

Jon Rish (former WEEI radio host and play-by-play announcer) will fill in for Orsillo during the three games in Houston before the All-Star break and the first two games against Kansas City at Fenway Park after the break. Don Orsillo will return to the booth on Sunday, July 20th.

Afternoon Red Sox Delight – 6/10/14

Brandon Workman (L), Chris Tillman (R)

After being blanked last night, the Boston Red Sox look to get back on track tonight against the Baltimore Orioles in the middle game of a three-game set at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Orioles television market, you can catch the game on MASN. If you don’t live in either market you’re in luck as the MLB Network will have coverage of the game (outside of Red Sox and Orioles television markets). And if you can’t catch the game on television, you can always listen on the 2014 Red Sox Radio Network.

Brandon Workman makes his fourth start (seventh appearance) of the 2014 season. In his previous six appearances (three starts), Workman has no record with a 3.74 ERA. He allowed one hit in 2/3 of an inning against the Orioles back on April 3 out of the bullpen. He’s made four career appearances against the O’s and has no record with a 0.00 ERA. Two of those appearances have come at Camden Yards.

Chris Tillman takes the hill for the 14th time in 2014. In his previous 13 starts, Tillman is 5-2 with a 5.20 ERA. He’s made two starts against the Red Sox this season and is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA (4 ER/10 IP). He’s made 13 career starts against the Red Sox and is 5-2 with a 2.86 ERA.

Batting coach Jim Presley #15 congratulates starting pitcher Bud Norris #25 of the Baltimore Orioles following the Orioles 4-0 win over the Boston Red Sox at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on June 9, 2014 in Baltimore, Maryland.

With every game played, it gets harder and harder to not compare this Boston Red Sox team to the one of 2012 that we all know was in the words of Charles Barkley, “turrible”. And while a certain part of the cast is the same, this is not the 2013 World Series Championship team by no means. This one lacks an identity.

They had lost 10 straight games, then reeled off seven wins in a row, then lost five in a row before winning on Sunday night. Then on Monday night against an AL East foe in the Baltimore Orioles kept them quiet as well.

Bud Norris allowed three hits over eight innings while the O’s offense had three home runs off of Jake Peavy in a 4-0 win over the Red Sox at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Brock Holt, Daniel Nava and David Ross managed the three hits for the visitors.

Peavy only needed 94 pitches to get through seven innings but basically three mistakes led to home runs by Adam Jones, Nick Markakis and Ryan Flaherty.

We could argue that maybe the Red Sox were tired after getting in late from Detroit. We could argue many a different things.

One thing is for certain.

If these guys don’t start picking things up, we could see the Red Sox as sellers and not buyers at the trade deadline.

Video: Down (Almost) Goes Dolson

Last year, it was Stefanie Dolson doing bunny ears to President Obama when the 2013 UConn Huskies National Championship Women’s Basketball team visited the White House. So what would Dolson do for an encore this year when both 2014 National Championship UConn men’s and women’s basketball teams were there?

How about fall off the stage?

Fortunately for her and despite wearing heels, she was able to catch her balance. Of course the President was right there when it all happened.

Afternoon Red Sox Delight – 6/9/14

Jake Peavy (L), Bud Norris (R)

After going 1-5 during the first six games of their current nine-game road trip, the Boston Red Sox look to finish it strong starting tonight as they face the Baltimore Orioles in the first game of a three-game set at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Orioles television market, you can catch the game on MASN. And if you can’t catch the game on television, you can always listen on the 2014 Red Sox Radio Network.

Jake Peavy toes the rubber for the 13th time in 2014. In his previous 12 starts, Peavy is 1-3 with a 4.72 ERA. He’s made one start against the Birds this season and picked up a no decision after allowing five runs in 5.2 innings of work back on April 20. He’s made four career starts against the O’s and is 2-0 with a 4.21 ERA. Tonight marks his first start at Camden Yards.

Bud Norris makes his 12th start of the 2014 season. In his previous 11 starts, Norris is 4-5 with a 4.41 ERA. He took the loss in his lone start of 2014 against the Red Sox after allowing four runs in 6.1 innings back on April 19. He’s made four career starts against the Red Sox and is 0-2 with a 4.56 ERA. Tonight will be his first start against the visiting squad at Camden Yards.
