When Jed Hoyer was hired away from the Boston Red Sox by the San Diego Padres to be their general manager, it was thought that he may try to bring some people over from the Red Sox.
He asked for and received permission from the Red Sox to interview the director of player development Mike Hazen, which he did over the weekend to be his assistant general manager. And according to Peter Gammons on his Twitter page, Hazen was offered the job but declined it to stay with the Red Sox.
Hazen, who grew up in Massachusetts, has been the Red Sox farm director since 2006.
