CSN New England baseball analyst Lou Merloni sat down with his good friend and former teammate Nomar Garciparra who announced his retirement from baseball on Wednesday.
Afternoon Red Sox Delight – 3/11
Yesterday at City of Palms Park, the Boston Red Sox fell to the their AL East foes, the Tampa Bay Rays, 8-6 in Grapefruit League action.
Minor leaguer Adam Mills was roughed up for six runs in an inning to take the loss. Jon Lester started for the Red Sox and allowed an unearned run on two hits in 2 2/3 innings. Jonathan Papelbon, Daniel Bard and Hideki Okajima all worked clean innings out of the bullpen as well.
Jacoby Ellsbury led the attack with two home runs and three RBIs while Kevin Youkilis was 2-for-3 with an RBI double. Dustin Pedroia also had two hits and Mike Cameron added a hit and an RBI.

Patriots Free Agency Update
The New England Patriots re-signed free agent cornerback Leigh Bodden to a four year deal worth a reported $22 million with $10 millon guaranteed. Bodden decided to return after being courted by the Houston Texans.
The team also saw free agent defense lineman Jarvis Green join former Patriots assistant and current Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels as he signed a four year contract for $20 million with $7.5 million guaranteed.

After announcing his retirement from baseball with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday morning, Nomar Garciaparra stopped to talk with NESN’s Heidi Watney about why it was time to retire. He also talked about what it meant to retire as a member of the Red Sox.

As you know by now, former Boston Red Sox great Nomar Garciaparra has decided to retire from baseball. He will do so a member of the Red Sox and will join ESPN as a baseball analyst.

Nomar Garciaparra Retires As A Member of the Red Sox
There was a buzz around City of Palms Park in Ft. Myers, FL. on Tuesday morning.
The Boston Red Sox had called a press conference at 10:30 a.m. and initially no one knew what it was for. Could it be that they had signed Josh Beckett and/or Victor Martinez to contract extensions or had they traded Mike Lowell?
None of those scenarios were the case. Instead, it was for former Red Sox great Nomar Garciparra who was signing a one day contract and announcing his retirement from baseball.
Late Morning Red Sox Delight – 3/10
The Boston Red Sox made the long trek across the state of Florida yesterday to Jupiter to take on the Florida Marlins and came away with a 9-0 win.
Tim Wakefield started for the Red Sox and had himself a great outing. He went three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and recorded one strikeout. He threw 30 pitches, 22 of them for strikes.
Josh Reddick paced the Red Sox offense with three hits and an RBI. Ryan Kalish, Yamaico Navarro and Jeremy Hermida both added two hits with Hermida and Kalish knocking in runs as well. Gil Velazquez and Dusty Brown each had a hit and two RBIs.
