Yesterday at City of Palms Park, the Boston Red Sox fell to the their AL East foes, the Tampa Bay Rays, 8-6 in Grapefruit League action.
Minor leaguer Adam Mills was roughed up for six runs in an inning to take the loss. Jon Lester started for the Red Sox and allowed an unearned run on two hits in 2 2/3 innings. Jonathan Papelbon, Daniel Bard and Hideki Okajima all worked clean innings out of the bullpen as well.
Jacoby Ellsbury led the attack with two home runs and three RBIs while Kevin Youkilis was 2-for-3 with an RBI double. Dustin Pedroia also had two hits and Mike Cameron added a hit and an RBI.
Today, the Red Sox head back across the state to Port St. Lucie to take on the New York Mets. The game will start at 1:05 p.m. and will be broadcast on SNY and the MLB Network where available. John Lackey will start for the Red Sox and he’ll be followed by LHP Felix Doubront, RHP Joe Nelson and RHP Junichi Tazawa.
Mike Pelfrey gets the start for the Mets and he’ll be followed by LHP Pedro Feliciano, RHP Tobi Stoner, LHP Hisanori Takahashi and RHP Ryota Igarashi.
