2010 New England Patriots Schedule Released

New Engalnd PatriotsThe NFL has released the 2010 schedules for all of the teams and we find our New England Patriots opening up their season at home against Chad Ochocinco and the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Patriots schedule features two games on Monday Night Fooball on ESPN on the road against the Miami Dolphins (10/4) and at home against the New York Jets (12/6). They also have two games on Sunday Night Football in NBC on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers (11/14) and at home against the Green Bay Packers (12/19).

There is the possibility that the Sunday night game against the Packers could be flexed out of primetime.

The Patriots will also make their fourth appearance on Thanksgiving Day (11/25) as they’ll take on the Detroit Lions. They lost the Dallas Cowboys 20-17 in 1984, 34-9 against the Lions in 2000 and they beat the Lions 20-12 in 2002.

One other wrinkle to the 2010 schedule is the fact that all games in the NFL will be Divisional games. The Patriots will host the Dolphins in the season finale at Gillette Stadium.

A full look at the 2010 Patriots schedule after the jump.

Nine Red Sox On 2010 AL All-Star Ballot

Boston Red SoxThey all may not be playing like All-Stars right now but the Boston Red Sox had nine players placed on the 2010 All-Star Ballot by MLB on Tuesday afternoon.

This year’s game will be hosted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and will be played at Angel Stadium on July 13th.

This is good news for David Ortiz because that means he’ll be on the ballot as the DH representative. Victor Martinez, Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia, Marco Scutaro, Adrian Beltre, J.D. Drew, Mike Cameron and Jacoby Ellsbury are the other Red Sox representatives on the ballot.

Voting has begun at MLB.com and will continue until July 1st at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

So what are you waiting for, go vote and vote Red Sox all the way through on the AL ballot.

After being swept by the Tampa Bay Rays, the Boston Red Sox look to take out their frustrations on the Texas Rangers over the next three days.

First pitch for tonight’s game will be at 7:10 p.m. and will be shown on NESN in the Red Sox television market. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports Southwest in the Rangers television market. If you can’t catch the television broadcast, you can always listen to the game on the 2010 Red Sox radio network.

Tim Wakefield looks to get the ship sailing back in the right direction for the Red Sox tonight. Wakefield has made two starts this season and is 0-1 with a 5.11 ERA. He’s made 33 appearances (26 starts) against the Rangers in his career and is 10-15 with a 5.98 ERA and four saves.

Colby Lewis makes his third start of the season after spending two years in Japan. In his two previous starts, he is 2-0 with a 2.19 ERA. He’s appeared in five games (one start) against the Red Sox in his career and has no record with a 1.93 ERA.

Breaking News: Ellsbury Heading To DL

Boston Red Sox breaking news

After gambling that Jacoby Ellsbury would heal quickly from his bruised ribs after a collision with Adrian Beltre, the Boston Red Sox have placed him on the disabled list according to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe.

To replace Ellsbury on the roster, the Red Sox have called up Darnell McDonald from Triple-A Pawtucket. The move for Ellsbury is retroactive to April 12th.

In 10 games with the PawSox, McDonald is hitting .341 with two home runs and eight RBIs.

Breaking News: Cameron Heading To DL

Boston Red Sox breaking news

According to Sean McAdam of CSN New England, the Boston Red Sox will be placing center fielder Mike Cameron the 15-day DL with a sports hernia. Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe says the Red Sox will call up Josh Reddick from Triple-A Pawtucket to take his place on the roster.

Cameron was scratched from the lineup yesterday after he feel a reoccurrence of the kidney stone symptoms he suffered late last week. Instead, he has abdominal strain (sports hernia) that could related to the groin injury he suffered during spring training.

In nine games with the PawSox, Reddick is hitting .179 with one home run and six RBIs. He spent part of the weekend in a Boston hotel stashed away in case Jacoby Ellsbury was placed on the DL with his bruised ribs.

Boston Red Sox News & Notes – 4/20

J.D. Drew had the ball get by him after he failed to make a diving catch, allowing Rays' Reid Brignac to hit a double in the fourth inning (AP Photo)

The rough start for the Boston Red Sox continued on Monday as the Tampa Bay Rays got to John Lackey for eight runs on their way to an 8-2 win. It was the 5th straight loss for the Red Sox who now drop to 4-9 on the season.

panic buttonSure the Red Sox are off to one of their worst starts in recent memory but it doesn’t mean you should be lining up at the Tobin Bridge to jump off. So before you decide to do anything crazy or hit the panic button remember one thing.

The Red Sox did start last season at 2-6 before reeling off an 11-game winning streak. Sure this is a different team this year and the good defense we were promised hasn’t really happened yet but folks, we still have ten days left in the month of April.

The schedule does set up nicely for the Red Sox over the coming days as they’ll play nine of their next 12 games against the Texas Rangers (three) and the Baltimore Orioles (six). The other three games are against the Toronto Blue Jays, who are off to a good start this season.

The Rangers come into this series after being swept by the New York Yankees while the Orioles are just 2-12 right now and not really having much luck. And with the Red Sox at a low point right now, these could be the teams they need to face to get their season back on track.

One bad month can kill you as far as the standings go but by no means does that mean a season is over. We’ve seen teams in the past get off to poor starts only to rebound and make a run. What says the Red Sox can’t do that and get back towards the top of the AL East? Wins against the Rangers and Orioles this week would jump start that and if that happens, things should look back on the up-and-up for the Red Sox.

The other thing fans need to remember is that baseball is cyclical.

Just because someone is slumping right now, that doesn’t mean that it’s going to continue. Usually when a team isn’t playing well, it might be because the pitching is poor or a few hitters are in a batting slump or the defense has been bad. While it’s rare for these three things to happen at once, it’s what we’re finding right now with the Red Sox.

We’ve seen the Red Sox win when the hitting was good and the pitching not so good and vice versa. Things will turn around but what we need to hope for is that all three of the above mentioned things start to turn good at the same time or at least two of the three. Then we should see the results that we’re looking for and have come to expect from our Boston Red Sox.

We’ll be back later with the lineups, batter/pitcher matchups and links from during the day but for now, enjoy the morning links after the jump from the local media.
