Yup you read that right. Joe Gannascoli, who played Soprano family member “Vito Spatafore” on the HBO series submitted a picture of his wife, his dog and him to WNYW TV’s True Blue fan forum. Turns out “Vito”, who liked getting with men in the show, maybe a little odd for real as he dyed his poor dog blue in honor of his favorite team, the New York Giants, making the Super Bowl.
Problem is he didn’t quite get the color right as the dog is far from the blue the Giants use and looks more pastel like an Easter egg. People all around the nation say Patriots fans are “asshats” for some of the get ups but I have yet to see a Pats fan dye their dog. And even if they did dye their dog at least a Pats fan is smart enough to get the color correct.
But ya know on second thought who am I compare fans?

While you’re at it take a gander over at the Yahoo Sports blog where the Mighty MJD went one on one with the poor pooch.

Okay, I will admit it. I was one of the naysayers who didn’t think UConn had a chance today without Jerome Dyson and Doug Wiggins. Well, they proved everybody, including myself, wrong and got a signature win for the season.
Craig Austrie filled in admirably for Dyson today as his free throws down the stretch helped the UConn Huskies hold on for the 68-63 upset of the Indiana Hoosiers in front of a raucous crowd at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, IN. The win for the Huskies was their third in-a-row and second against a ranked opponent in six days.
After falling behind early in the game 9-0, the Huskies (14-5) finally got on the scoreboard when Stanley Robinson made 1-of-2 from the free throw line. With the Hoosiers leading 11-3, UConn started to mount it’s comeback. They used a 14-5 run to take the lead at 17-16. Indiana (17-2) tied it up at 19 all. UConn then went on a 5-0 mini-run capped off by an A.J. Price 3-pointer to give the Huskies the lead. The teams exchanged a few baskets before the half as the Huskies would go into the locker room with a 29-24 lead.
UConn increased their lead to nine points early on in the second half when Robinson knocked down a three. Indiana momentarily closed the gap to five points before UConn took their biggest lead of the game at 50-39 with 7:35 to go in the game. The Hoosiers tried to battle back but could get no closer than five points down the stretch as the Huskies made most of their free throws down the stretch. Luckily, the misses didn’t come back to haunt them this time.
The Huskies were led by Austrie who had 15 points, including 9 points from the charity stripe (9-12). Price chipped in with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. He did however commit 7 turnovers. Hasheem Thabeet added 12 points, most of them coming on dunks. Both Robinson and Jeff Adrien had identical double-doubles with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Armon Bassett led the Hoosiers with 18 points, with all of his points coming from behind the 3-point line. Freshman sensation Eric Gordon had 14 points while D.J. White had a double-double of his own with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Crawford came off the bench for the Hoosiers to add 10 points.
As I said at the top of the post, it was a signature win for the Huskies. What I mean by this is that it looks good come NCAA tournament time when the selection committee is reviewing your resume. When you win on the road against a top ten team, the committee will take notice of that.
The Huskies won this game on sheer will and their intense pressure defense. Indiana at times looked to struggle with this and the Huskies were able to use their great defense to their advantage. Early on in the game, the Hoosiers were passing the ball to score points. As the game wore on, they got away from the passing and looked a like a team of individuals. Playing shorthanded and on the road, the Huskies did what it took to win the game.
The Huskies will have only two days to celebrate the victory as they are back on the court Monday night against the Louisville Cardinals. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM and the game will be on ESPN as part of their “Big Monday” package.
And no I am not talking about Rudy Giuliani.
For those of you with ups or hops or whatever the kids are calling it these days, this is your chance to help former UConn star Rudy Gay win the NBA Slam Dunk contest in February. He will be competing against Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic, Jamario Moon of the Toronto Raptors and last years winner Gerald Green of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Green was a member of the Boston Celtics when he won.
All Rudy wants you to do is submit a video of a dunk which you think he could use to win the contest. If he likes your dunk, he will use it. For all the information and rules on the contest check out the video below

New England Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork was fined by the NFL for the fourth time this season for a face mask call in the AFC Championship game against San Diego.
Wilfork called the $5,000 fine “ridiculous” and indicated he will appeal it in the off season.
“I don’t want to get into it [publicly] with the NFL,” Wilfork said. “They’ll probably fine me or suspend me [for criticism]. That’s something I’ll have to take care of in the offseason.”
The fourth-year veteran was fined for a play that occurred with about five minutes remaining in the first quarter last Sunday. On first-and-10 from the New England 40, Chargers running back Michael Turner carried over left guard for five yards, and Wilfork grabbed his facemask as he attempted to make the tackle.
Prior to this, Wilfork was fined a total of $32,500 this season for a late hit on Buffalo quarter J.P. Losman, for tangling with Dallas tight end Jason Witten and for poking Giants running back Brandon Jacobs in the eye.

Scouts Inc., which is a division of ESPN, rated all of the 106 players who are on the active rosters of the New England Patriots and the New York Giants. I think for the most part I agree with the list. It’s kind of hard and pretty senseless to argue about whether or not Patriots long snapper Lonnie Paxton rated too low at #79. Or if Giants linebacker Gerris Wilkinson, who see’s most of his time on special teams, is rated too high at #50. The chances of either of those guys being involved in a play that determines the outcome is much smaller than either of the teams stars.
Scouts Inc. says:
In determining our rankings, we took into consideration the player’s current performance, as well as his play throughout the season. A player’s special teams contribution also influenced our decision.
I guess what struck me the most about the list were these placings:
The top ten guys on the list are:
No real surprises there, especially with the two left guards getting listed they will be very important in the blind side protection of the quarterbacks. I just would have thought that Manning would be more important than a guy he was throwing the ball to.
Matt Mosely, who authors the fine Hashmarks blog at ESPN.com, came up with his own Top 10 in terms of which players mean the most to their respective teams. His Top five are:
His list is good but I don’t think Manning and Burress are that high. I agree that they are the two players that mean the most to the Giants offense but in the grand scheme of the game I think other players are more deserving of a higher overall rating than Manning and Burress. Go here to see all of Mosely’s list and his reasoning.

One roster note on the Patriots safety Mel Mitchell, who plays mostly on special teams, was placed on the injured reserve list on Thursday and will miss Super Bowl XLII with a biceps injury. This leaves the Patriots roster at 52 a player to take Mitchell’s spot probably won’t be signed until next week. I believe at this point in the season the player has to come from the teams practice squad.
Mitchell played in 10 regular season games and the AFC Divisional game against Jacksonville. He missed the AFC Championship game against San Diego with the injury.

Their respective teams and fans may not like each other at all but Red Sox GM Theo Epstein and Yankees GM Brian Cashman have a friendship away from the game. They not have a normal friendship like you do with your best friend considering the work for the two teams in the biggest rivalry in sports. Maybe you could call them frenemies like Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. One things for sure, they are both pretty good at what they do.
One month after Cashman came up to Boston for Hot Stove, Cool Music, Epstein returned the favor as the pair were part of a guest lecture at William Patterson University in New Jersey last night. Before they answered questions from the audience the two spoke with the media on hand.
Here are a few quotes from the two general managers:
“I deal with all 28 teams,” the Yankees’ Cashman said with a wink when asked about his negotiating strategy, pointedly leaving out the 29th team, Boston. “Then, when I’m about to hang up with the 28th team, I say, ‘Hey, do you know what Boston’s up to?'”
“We’re just trying to build a team that can compete in the toughest division in baseball,” Epstein said. “Baseball’s a long season and it’s fairly humbling, and once you start that kind of talk, bad things can happen.”
“Until someone takes that away from them, they’ll have that swagger,” Cashman said. “When they step on the field in spring training, they’ll know what they can do because they’ve done it. That’s important.”
As you would expect, some of the questions were serious nature while some were funny. The biggest question from the audience was about baseball steroids policy.
It’s odd to see this two together let alone be friends, but it just shows you that the hatred for the two teams is only on the field for these two gentleman.

Two big defensive plays and one put back in the last 23.2 seconds gave the Boston Celtics an 87-86 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves at the sold out TD BankNorth Garden on Friday night.
With the T-Wolves leading 86-85 Minnesota rookie Corey Brewer couldn’t inbound the ball and got called for a five-second violation turning the ball over. Celtics center Kendrick Perkins than tapped in a put back of a missed Ray Allen shot and the Green had the lead with 16.6 seconds remaining.
When Minnesota inbounded the ball after a timeout Rajon Rondo and Perkins double teamed Al Jefferson in front of the Minnesota bench nearly trapping him, Jefferson then air mailed a pass to Sebastian Telfair who had to leap to knock the ball down but ended up getting picked by Kevin Garnett who passed to Rondo as the time expired on the game clock sealing a win for Boston.
The Celtics were led by Perkins who had 21 points, Paul Pierce had 19 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists, Ray Allen had 12 points and Garnett playing against his former team for the first time had 10 points and 19 boards as the Green improved to 34-7.
The Timberwolves, who dropped to 7-35, were led by Telfair who had 18 points and 6 assists, Jefferson who had 15 points and 5 boards, Ryan Gomes who had 13 points and Rashad McCants who had 12 points and 7 rebounds.
Minnesota sports five former Celtics on their roster, four or which came in the Garnett deal. Returning to Garden for the first time as visitors were Telfair, Jefferson, Gomes and Gerald Green. Antoine Walker also now makes his home in the land of 10,000 lakes.
Boston returns to action Sunday when they play the Magic in Orlando at 1 p.m.
