Brady, Moss Talk Endorsements

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, wide receiver Randy Moss and owner Robert Kraft were all on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” this morning. The football talk was minimal as you would imagine since they were on CNBC.

Boston Red Sox News & Notes – 9/5

Dustin Pedroia for MVP

The Boston Red Sox head into a 3-game set with the Texas Rangers trailing the Tampa Bay Rays by 3.5 games in the AL East. They also hold a 5.5 game lead over the Minnesota Twins and 7.5 game lead over the New York Yankees in the wild card standings.

While the Red Sox will try to get a sweep in Texas, they will be counting on their AL East brethren the Toronto Blue Jays to help them out with some wins against the Rays.

The Red Sox will get Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell back from the disabled list tonight. You can expect Beckett to be on a pitch count since he’s been out for a bit.

The Red Sox stepped up while Josh Beckett was out.

Dustin Pedroia is a surprise MVP candidate.

Pedroia also brings a lot of passion to the Red Sox team.

Coco Crisp has been hitting the ball well as of late.

The Red Sox model of youth and experience is working well for them.

Jacoby Ellsbury needs 10 stolen bases to tie Tommy Harper’s club record.

UConn Men’s Basketball Releases 2008-09 Schedule

Paw Prints Men's Basketball

The UConn Huskies men’s basketball team released their 2008-09 schedule finally this afternoon. The Huskies will play 10 games at the XL Center and 8 at Gampel Pavilion.

The non-conference part of the schedule is highlighted by a trip to the Virgin Islands in November to play in the Paradise Jam as well as a trip to Seattle to play Gonzaga. Michigan will make a visit to Gampel Pavilion in February.

The Huskies will play 12 nationally televised games with none of them on ESPNU, thankfully, as of right now. The rest of the local television broadcast schedule will be announced in the near future.

Tennessee To Play UConn….

Tennessee vs UConn football

I know what you’re thinking right now, Pat Summitt came to her senses and admitted that she was wrong for canceling the series with the UConn Huskies. That scenario is highly unlikely. You do have a better chance though that the UConn Huskies football team will play the Tennessee Volunteers in football before the women’s basketball teams ever meet again in the regular season.

That’s right folks. The UConn Huskies will be playing the Volunteers in football starting in 2015. It’s a 2-year contract that calls for a home game for each team. Tennessee will travel to Rentschler Field to play on September 26, 2015 and the Huskies will travel to Neyland Stadium on September 3, 2016.

The scheduling of Tennessee is huge for the UConn football program. It gives them a nationally known team from perhaps the best football conference in the land, SEC, to play. It will also help them out tremendously with recruiting in the coming years.

Thank You NESN

the faces of Tappen

With Tina Cervasio and Hazel Mae having moved on to other places, NESN finally did something right with its air talent and announced yesterday that they signed Kathryn Tappen to a multi-year contract extension.  She will continue to host the Bruins pre and post game shows and in between period recaps as well as being involved with Sports Desk and other NESN projects. I have two words:  THANK YOU!
