Earlier on Monday, Boston Red Sox skipper Bobby Valentine named Jon Lester as his starter for the opener against the Detroit Tigers on April 5th. It’s the second straight year that Lester has started on Opening Day.
Valentine also announced that Josh Beckett will follow in the next game and barring a rainout, Beckett is in line to start the home opener on April 13th against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Pedro Ciriaco, who’s been having a pretty impressive big league camp with the Boston Red Sox, was the hero in Monday’s 5-3 win over the Miami Marlins. It was his two-run walk-off homer that gave them the victory in the 10th.
