Video: UConn Women Spank Memphis, 83-49

If there's one thing you can say about the UConn Huskies women's basketball team, it's that they are consistent.

Connecticut Huskies forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis (23) goes up for a shot against Memphis during the second half at the XL Center in Hartford, CT.When they faced the Memphis Tigers 18 days ago, UConn only gave up 49 points. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis led them in scoring in that matchup with 21 points while Stefanie Dolson had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

This time around, KML had 21 points and Dolson had a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards as UConn beat Memphis 83-49 in front of 8,365 at the XL Center in Hartford, CT on Wednesday night.

It's the 21st time the Huskies have won at least 20 games in a season (20-0, 7-0 American). It's also the eighth time they've started 20-0 which bodes well because they've won five national titles in those eight seasons. Memphis falls to 10-9 (3-4).

Dolson also had five assists and five steals while Moriah Jefferson had three points, six assists and nine steals.

Bria Hartley added 20 points with Breanna Stewart scoring 16 points and falling one rebound short of a double-double with nine. Stewie also had three blocked shots.

Breigha Wilder-Cochran paced the Tigers with 12 points. Asianna Fuqua-Bey had a double-double but it's not one you want to have. She scored 10 points but had 11 turnovers. Fuqua-Bey also led the team in rebounds with six along with Pa'Sonna Hope.

The Huskies started off slow in the first half as they seemed to be as cold as the air outside from the floor. Memphis hung tight early on as they trailed 11-8. The Tigers stayed close until about the seven minute mark when UConn closed out the half on an 11-3 run to take a 39-23 lead.

UConn got hot in the second half as they used an early 14-2 run to put away the Tigers and cruise to their 20th victory.

The Huskies are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they'll host the South Florida Bulls at the XL Center. Tip is scheduled for 12 p.m.

Video: UConn Men Rebound With 90-66 Win Over Temple

Connecticut Huskies forward DeAndre Daniels (2) drives around Temple Owls forward Anthony Lee (3) during the first half at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn., on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014.

With a light fluffy snow falling outside the XL Center on Tuesday night, the UConn Huskies men's basketball team was inside making it rain with baskets.

Coming off a bad loss to the Louisville Cardinals where the Huskies were outplayed, they needed to make a statement against a Temple Owls team who's been to the past six NCAA Tournaments but is struggling this year. For that to happen, DeAndre Daniels would need to re-emerge.

Daniels did just that with a career-high 31 points and 12 rebounds to help UConn to a 90-66 win over Temple in front of an announced crowd of 4,741.

The Huskies improve to 15-4 (3-3 American) while the Owls fall to 5-12 (0-6). UConn was playing without Ryan Boatright, who was back in Chicago at the funeral of his cousin.

Shabazz Napier added 27 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Niels Giffey chipped in with 11 points while Lasan Kromah had seven points and eight rebounds.

Will Cummings paced the Owls with 20 points. Anthony Lee added 14 points while both Quenton DeCosey and Dalton Pepper both had 12 points. DeCosey led them with six rebounds.

With UConn trailing 9-6, they went on a 12-3 run. They followed that up with a 14-0 to push their lead to 32-16 and enjoyed a 48-34 lead at the half.

The Owls would get no closer than 14 points during the second half.

It was nice to see Daniels make a nice comeback after the stinker against Louisville. The one thing he needs to do is perform consistently. While Memphis was a good team where he had a superb game, this year's Temple team is no where in that category.

That's where the consistency of doing this on nightly basis comes in. If he can find that, good things can happen for the UConn men.

The UConn men are back in action on Saturday when they head to New Jersey for a matchup with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at the RAC. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Video: UConn Women Rout Rutgers, 94-64

Unless the two teams start a series after the Rutgers Scarlet Knights leave for the Big 10, the UConn Huskies women's basketball team made their final trip to the RAC on Sunday.

And while it may be sad that the Huskies won't go to one of the tougher environments in women's college basketball, UConn made sure they'd be remembered in their final visit (for now) there.

UConn Huskies guard Bria Hartley hoists a three-pointer in the second half at the Rutgers Athletic Center Sunday.Behind Bria Hartley's career-high 30 points, UConn beat the Scarlet Knights 94-64 in front of 6,480 and a nationally televised audience at the RAC.

UConn improves to 19-0 (6-0 American) while Rutgers falls to 13-4 (4-2).

Breanna Stewart added 23 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Stefanie Dolson had yet another double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Moriah Jefferson had 13 points and eight assists.

Tyler Scaife paced the Scarlet Knights with a career-high 22 points while Kahleah Cooper had 20. Despite not scoring any points, Christa Evans led Rutgers with five rebounds.

As it seems they do every game, the Huskies started out quickly opening with an 18-6 run. They'd build their lead up to 21 points at 41-20 before Rutgers would close out the half on a 9-2 run to make it a 14 point game at the half.

The Scarlet Knights would score the first basket of the second half to cut the lead to 12 but that's as close as they would get the rest of the way as the Huskies continued to build their lead to secure the win.

UConn is back in action on Wednesday night when they'll host the Memphis Tigers at the XL Center in Hartford, CT. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Video: UConn Men Upset No. 17 Memphis, 83-73

At this point, does anyone even remember the Texas two-misstep the UConn Huskies men's basketball had around the New Year? If you do, they are certainly doing their collective best the last few games to make you forget.

UConn's Shabazz Napier, left, and Lasan Kromah react on the bench during the second half. And Thursday night on a national stage was no different and in a place that is one of the hardest to pick up a road victory.

An 8-0 run after the score was tied at 62 was good enough to push UConn to an 83-73 upset win over the No. 17 Memphis Tigers at FedEx Forum in Memphis, TN.

The Huskies improve to 14-3 (2-2 American) while the Tigers fall to 13-4 (2-2).

DeAndre Daniels led the way for the Huskies with a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds and he also had three blocked shots. Not to be outdone, Shabazz Napier had a double-double of his own with 17 points and 10 assists. Lasan Kromah added 13 points.

Michael Dixon, Jr. led the way for the Tigers with 16 points. Austin Nichols had 13 points while Joe Jackson had 11. Shaq Goodwin finished with 10 points.

Geron Davis had a team-high six rebounds and seven assists while finishing with eight points in a losing effort.

The first half was a game of runs that saw each team get out to a lead then have it disappear. The Tigers would a one-point advantage at the half.

But UConn would open up the second half on a 10-2 run to get back out in front. Of course it went all for naught as the Tigers got back to one at 49-48. It stayed close over the next minutes of action until Goodwin tied the game up at 62.

From there, the Huskies used the 8-0 run to seize control. They also didn't miss a shot of the rest of the way from that point going 5-for-5 from the floor and 6-for-6 from the line.

This win a is a resume building win. A road win against a ranked team in a place that is nearly impossible to win at.

Things won't get any easier for UConn either. They'll host the No. 18/14 Louisville Cardinals on Saturday night at 9 p.m. ESPN's College GameDay will be in house at Gampel Pavilion and broadcasting from Storrs, CT all day.

Another win against a ranked opponent and the Huskies could see themselves slide back into the top 25.

Video: UConn F Mamadou Diouf Taken By Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Second Round of MLS SuperDraft

After watching his UConn Huskies men's soccer teammate Andre Blake get drafted No. 1 overall by the Philadelphia Union, Senegal native Mamadou Diouf had to wait for his turn.

Vancouver Whitecaps FCIt took 29 more picks but with the 11th pick of the second round of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft (No. 30 overall), the Vancouver Whitecaps FC took Diouf.

He finished up his UConn career as the No. 8 all-time leading scorer with 36 goals. His 2013 was injury-riddled but did see him score two goals and five assists and earn second team American Athletic Conference.

In his junior season, he was named to the All-Big East First Team and was 2012 NSCAA Second Team All-American after he scored 15 goals.

Video: UConn GK Andre Blake Taken No. 1 Overall By Philadelphia Union in MLS SuperDraft

UConn Huskies men's soccer junior goalkeeper Andre Blake will be taking his talents to the City of Brotherly Love as he was taken by the Philadelphia Union as the No. 1 overall draft pick on Thursday.

Philadelphia UnionThe Union actually traded the No. 2 pick and some of their allocation money to move up and draft Blake at No. 1

He's the second No. 1 overall pick from UConn joining Chris Gbandi who taken by the then Dallas Burn (now known as FC Dallas).

Blake is also a member of Generation Adidas meaning his salary won't count against the Philadelphia's cap until he graduates from the program. As part of Generation Adidas, Blake will receive a salary that's higher than the league minimum. He'll also receive a scholarship to continue his academic studies should he not make it in the professional ranks.

But something tells me that won't be a problem for the Jamaican National.

Here's UConn's press release:

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.  – University of Connecticut junior goalkeeper Andre Blake became the first goalkeeper ever to be taken with the top pick when he was selected as No. 1 by the Philadelphia Union in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft on Thursday afternoon in Philadelphia, Pa. Blake joined Chris Gbandi (Dallas, 2002) as the only other Husky to be taken No. 1 overall.

Senior Mamadou Diouf followed Blake when he was selected 30th overall by the Vancouver Whitecaps in the second round. UConn now boasts 31 overall MLS Draft picks, including 10 first-round choices.

Blake, a May Pen, Jamaica native, was widely viewed as one of the most exciting prospects in the years' draft. The keeper has had a tremendous career in a Husky uniform, earning 36 shutouts in his three years as a starter. Blake was twice named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and capped off his impressive run as the American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year in 2013.

"Andre's selection today has verified what we have thought for some time," said 17th-year head coach Ray Reid. "He is a big time goalkeeper and will have a great professional career."

Blake's 36 career shutouts rank third all-time in program history, while his 46 wins are the fourth most by a Connecticut goalkeeper. In 2013, the keeper amassed a 0.75 goals against average and helped lead the Huskies to their third consecutive NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal match. He was named as an NSCAA First Team All-American for the second consecutive season after being tabbed a Third Team All-American after his freshman campaign in 2011.

"For me, everyday I just want to get better," said Blake moments after being selected. "I'm just going to go in and work hard and try to make myself and my team better."

"It was truly a pleasure to work with a talented young man," said UConn assistant coach Mike Mordocco. "The best of Blake is yet to come."

Diouf departs Storrs as one of the most prolific scorers in recent history, tallying 36 total goals, which ranks eighth in Husky history. The Dakar, Senegal native recorded a career-high five assists in 2013 and added two goals. As a junior, Diouf was placed on the All-BIG EAST First Team and was tabbed as BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. The forward was a 2012 NSCAA Second Team All-American after a 15-goal season and was named to the All-Conference Second Team in 2013.

"Mamadou leaves UConn with every possible honor he could have achieved," said Reid. "He is deserving of being drafted and will do a fantastic job at the next level.

Video: Brimah Powers UConn To 84-61 Win Over UCF

Amida Brimah with one of his five blocked shots.

The UConn Huskies men's basketball team hadn't started a conference season at 0-3 since the 1984-85 season. Amida Brimah made sure that didn't happen on Saturday night.

Brimah had career-highs of 20 points and eight rebounds along with five blocked shots to power UConn to an 84-61 over the UCF Knights in front of 9,561 and a nationally televised audience at Gampel Pavilion.

It's the first American Athletic Conference win for the Huskies as they improve to 13-3 (1-2 American). UCF falls to 9-5 (1-2).

Shabazz Napier added a double-double of 14 points and 11 assists for UConn. DeAndre Daniels had 13 points, seven rebounds and four blocks while Ryan Boatright had 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Isaiah Sykes battled foul trouble but still managed to lead the Knights with 17 points and four assists. Eugene McCrory chipped in with 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds while Tristan Spurlock had 11 points and six assists.

With the game tied at 12, Brimah sparked a Huskies 8-0 run with six points. UCF battled back to cut the lead to one at 22-21. UConn followed that with an 11-1 run to take an 11 point lead and that's what the halftime lead would be for the Huskies at 35-24.

In two previous losses, the Huskies had blown double digit leads and given how the Knights started the second half, with a 7-0 run, it looked like it could happen again.

But Brimah returned to the court and helped the Huskies to a 7-0 run of their own to get the lead back to 11. UCF would get the lead down to six points but that's as close as they would get as Boatright and Brimah would help the Huskies extend their lead to secure their first AAC win.

The Huskies are back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Memphis, TN when they'll take on the Memphis Tigers. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
