Gisele Says Her And TFB Not Engaged

It’s been rumored that Gisele Bundchen and injured New England Patriots Tom Brady were engaged on two separate occasions and the first time it was shot down. Well as far as the second rumor of an engagement, it’s been shot down by Gisele herself.

In a interview with the Brazilian magazine Caras, Bundchen told them that they are not engaged but will be married some day down the road.

“I will realize the dream of marriage, to have children and a family, of course. I’m sorry (to) disappoint you, there is no date set yet. I’m in love and you will see my wedding on the right day.”

“I don’t know how people are so creative. “First they said he proposed to me in a plane. Imagine, it was Dec. 24, Christmas, we were flying to Boston, then there was some champagne and we celebrated the date.”

“Ready? Someone deduced I was getting engaged! I received more than 100 e-mails from friends commenting about the proposal. Now there’s a new rumor, that he proposed to me on last Friday. I wasn’t even there, how can that be true?”

She goes on to add that she would like to raise her children back in her native land.

That should clear up the rumor mill involving Gisele and TFB.

Keith Law’s Farm System And Prospect Rankings

For those looking for Keith Law’s 2010 Prospect Rankings, click here:

Boston Red Sox

Keith Law of Scouts, Inc has released his 2009 organizational rankings and the Boston Red Sox checked in at No. 7 on his list. The Texas Rangers boast the top system in his opinion. Here’s what he had to say about the Red Sox minor league system.

Probably an aggressive ranking, but their 2008 draft class has the potential to be one of the best. They have become more aggressive at going over slot to obtain premium players in the draft and have become more active internationally. Their system probably had more prospect depth on 2008 short-season rosters than any other but Texas’.

Law also released his top 10 prospects in the Red Sox organization and his top 100 prospects in baseball. Here is the list of the prospects and where they ranked in the top 100, if they did at all.

1. Lars Anderson, 1B – No. 7 in top 100
2. Michael Bowden, RHP –  No. 52 in top 100
3. Nick Hagadone, LHP – No. 81 in top 100
4. Junichi Tazawa, RHP – No. 90 in top 100
5. Daniel Bard, RHP – No. 94 in top 100
6. Josh Reddick, RF
7. Casey Kelly, RHP/SS
8. Stolmy Pimentel, RHP
9. Ryan Westmoreland, CF
10. Michael Almanzar, 3B

Anderson is also ranked as the top 1B prospect and is the only member of the Red Sox in the positional rankings.

Law says that Anderson is a few years away from the big leagues and just needs development time which leads me to believe that the Red Sox will not rush him and try to get him ready for when Mike Lowell’s contract runs out after the 2010 season. They would probably move Kevin Youkilis back to third base at that time and have Anderson take over  at first base.

Jets Hire Rex Ryan As Their Next Head Coach

Father is Buddy Ryan: The New York Jets wasted no time once the Baltimore Ravens were eliminated from the playoffs as they announced that Rex Ryan will be named head coach today at press conference. Ryan received a four-year deal and is excited to coach in New York (it’s really New Jersey though). “It’s been a dream of mine to become a head coach in the NFL,” Ryan said in a statement. “Coming here to the New York Jets, where my father once coached and was part of the Super Bowl III staff, is fantastic.” Now he just has to wait to see if he’ll have a quarterback next season. Ryan was the defensive coordinator for the Ravens last season. [Hartford Courant]

Jonathan Papelbon On Jason Varitek Situation

“There’s certain players in Major League Baseball that are on certain teams that you take a gamble on whether it’s age or whether it’s money. And for me, Varitek is, no question, in that category. I don’t care who you bring in or who you take out, there’s certain stability, not only in the clubhouse but on the field as well and he’s part…no, he’s not part, he is the main stability in our clubhouse and on that field, so for me – whether it’s the age issue or the money issue, there is no question in my mind that you make that gamble with a person like that! That’s the way I feel, that’s it. It’s that simple for me!” — Boston Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon, during a phone interview with Comcast SportsNet New England, on what he thinks of the “Varitek situation” and if he wants the Captain back.

Hat tipto Erin from Jason-Varitek.com for the transcription of the interview.

UPDATE: Here’s the full audio of Papelbon’s appearance from last night.

Report: Moorhead To Be Named Offensive Coordinator At UConn

Paw Prints Football News

According to Desmond Conner of the Hartford Courant, the UConn Huskies head football coach Randy Edsall is set to announce Akron Zips offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Joe Moorhead as his new offensive coordinator. The official announcement will come tomorrow.

Moorhead will take over for Rob Ambrose who left the Huskies to be the head coach at Towson University. He has been at Akron the past the 5 years, spending the last 3 as the offensive coordinator and QB coach. He has also coached at Georgetown and Pittsburgh.

He is a 1996 graduate of Fordham University and was the quarterback there for the 2003-05 seasons.

Why Your Favorite College Football Team Is No. 1

UConn Huskies Were Best Team in 2008: Connecticut beat Virginia on 09/13/2008 by a score of 45-10. Virginia beat Maryland on 10/04/2008 by a score of 31-0. Maryland beat Wake Forest on 10/18/2008 by a score of 26-0. Wake Forest beat Mississippi on 09/06/2008 by a score of 30-28. Mississippi beat Florida on 09/27/2008 by a score of 31-30 (on the road!). Florida is the 2008 Div 1-A champion. So … Connecticut was the best Div 1-A school for the 2008 college football season! [College Football Transitive Calculator]

The Curious Case Of Jonathan Papelbon

Pitcher Jonathan Papelbon #58 of the Boston Red Sox celebrates after the last out to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays in game one of the American League Championship Series during the 2008 MLB playoffs at Tropicana Field on October 10, 2008 in St. Petersburg, Florida. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images)It’s going to be interesting to follow what happens as the Boston Red Sox and Jonathan Papelbon exchange salary figures for arbitration in the coming days. Papelbon signed a record deal last year for closers with 2 years of service time when he signed for $775,000.

And now with Bobby Jenks signing a 1-year, $5.6 million dollar deal in his first arbitration year, you can bet Papelbon will be looking for more than that.

With the Red Sox signing Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis to long-term deals, you know that the Red Sox will want to sign Papelbon to one as well.

But as Rob Bradford of WEEI.com points out, it’s not going to be easy to get that done.

Plus you have what Papelbon is supposedly telling friends, he plans to test the free agent market in 3 years:

Although they have now managed to tie up Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis for six and four years, respectively, the Red Sox should not expect to do the same with closer Jonathan Papelbon, who is telling friends he has no intention of giving up his free agency rights in three years. It’s Papelbon’s position that, in agreeing to switch from starter to closer two springs ago, he made the ultimate sacrifice for the Red Sox considering that closers make less than starters. They also break down more, while starters are coddled.

I really do hope the Red Sox are able to work out some type of deal with him. It would be hard to watch Paps in any other uniform but I can understand his position in wanting to get what is fair and market value for his services.
