Here’s an idea for parents when it comes to naming your child. Don’t be like this idiot and name your kid ESPN (pronounced Espen). According to the article, it seems these people were not the first person to do this but rather the fourth.
I have to ask, were his parents on crack or smoking some reefer when they decided this. Didn’t the mother have a say in naming her child even though she promised her husband. The kid’s first and middle name are ESPN Montana. To me it sounds like they named their rugrat after the local ESPN Montana radio station.
I can see it now, this kid will be on the playground getting picked on. All they had to do is switch it around at least and call their son, Montana ESPN. This way the poor kid has a somewhat normal first name. No matter how big of a sports fan you are, theres a reason why people have middle names. Feel free to use them that way and let the poor kid decide what he wants to be called.
Well I will start out by saying this, I suck at predictions. First off, I had the Tigers losing in 4 to the Yankees. Secondly, I had the Twins in 5. Thirdly, i had the Padres in 4. Well we know if the Yankees are going to win, its going to take 5 games for them to do so. And let’s see, if the Twins are going to win in 5, it will have to happen in another season, as they got swept by Oakland.
I don’t even have the National League going for me. The Padres can’t win in 4 seeing how they are down 2-0. I took the Mets in 5 but they should finish that one off in 3 or 4 games.
Now to the observations:
So when the next round of the playoffs are set, I will again make predictions. I will say this though. If you are going to bet on the games, don’t listen to my predictions since I suck at them.
By the way, UCONN will lose to South Florida tomorrow night by the score of 23-17.

With last night’s loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, the Boston Red Sox have fallen into third place. The last time the Red Sox finished a season in 3rd place was the 1997 season when they finished behind the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees.
So what has gone wrong for the Red Sox this year? One thing I have to look at is the lack of moves at the trade deadline. The Red Sox made no moves this year to try and help the team get better. Instead they made some waiver wire moves, picking up among others Carlos Pena, Javy Lopez (no longer with the team), and Eric Hinske. They made very little moves in terms of starting pitching. In fact, the often inconsistent Julian Tavarez, who started the season in the bullpen, has been their best pitcher lately. Yes some key injuries have happened and those usually do. But this time nothing major was really done to replace them.
Having spent some time working in baseball, in and out of the clubhouse, a baseball team is like family. This being said, the news of Jon Lester’s cancer I am sure hit home. Many of us out in the real world do not realize that this is their job and really aren’t here to entertain us. Sure we pay numerous dollars to support our team but in the end, a baseball player’s job is to play baseball and help produce wins for his team. Imagine if you must, your boss has cancer and is no longer able to work for the time being. Are you upset about this news? Sure you are. You spend a great deal of time with this person and want the person to make a full recovery. It is the same with the players of the Boston Red Sox but hits them harder. These guys spend time together from the start of spring training til the end of the season. These are their friends and family for 9 months out of the year. Their wives are friends. Their children are friends. Being a part of a baseball team is like having an extended family. So if one of your family member’s had cancer, it would hit you like a brick wall. On that note, I would like to extend wishes of safe, speedy and healthy recovery for Jon Lester.
I now have figured out how to add slideshows to the new blog and also have been able to embed video into posts. We are good to go.

In some good Red Sox news, David Ortiz hit his 50th homerun of the season last night in a losing effort rounding the bases to the tune “Simply the Best”. Big Papi tied the 68 year old franchise record held by Jimmie Foxx for most homeruns in a season. Ortiz also tied his own MLB record of 43 hrs as a designated hitter. Look for Big Papi to break the record before the end of the season as he build on his career high in homeruns.
CONGRATULATIONS BIG PAPI!
Who should be this years American League MVP?

David Ortiz or Derek Jeter? Sound off in the comments section.
Kinda like the luck of my dating life being a day late and a dollar short, I’d like to offer a belated congratulations to UCONN Women’s Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma on his induction to the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Geno was inducted to the Hall of Fame this past Friday night with along Charles “Round Mound of Rebound” Barkley, Dominique “Human Highlight Film” Wilkins, Joe “Good Boy of the Bad Boys” Dumars, Dave “The Commish” Gavitt, and Italian National Team Coach Sandro Gamba. He joins UCONN Men’s Coach Jim Calhoun, who was inducted last season, in the Hall of Fame. To my knowledge, they are the only two coaches from the same school that are in the Hall of Fame.
Geno started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Virginia before taking his first and only head coaching job at UCONN in 1985. In 1991, Geno had his team in the Final Four and after 10 yrs as a coach at UCONN had his first national championship in 1995. The team went a record 35-0 to win it all that year. In 2001-2002 season, Geno’s Huskies achieved another perfect season amassing a 39-0 record. Overall Geno’s Huskies have won a total of 5 National Championships.
In 21 seasons, Auriemma has an overall record of 589-116. In those 21 seasons, Geno has had only one losing record and that came in his first year of coaching the Huskies (12-15 in 1985-86).
Look for Mel Thomas, Keita Swanier, Renee Montgomery, Brittany Hunter and the rest of Lady Huskies to get Geno to his 600th career victory this upcoming season.
Once again, congratulations to Coach Geno Auriemma.
CORRECTION: Auriemma and Calhoun are the only two active coaches from the same school in the Hall of Fame.
Taken from Rotoworld.com,
“Derek Jeter didn’t put a ball in play in four trips to the plate, yet somehow left the contest with his career-best 21-game hitting streak intact. With three walks and one hit by pitch, he did not actually record an official at-bat, so according to the rules, the hit-streak is still alive. Talk about a case of ‘you know things are going you’re way when…'”
That has to be one of the strangest occurrences during a hit streak. If my memory serves me correctly and no i am not that old, didn’t Pete Rose have the same thing happen to him during one of his hit streaks.
Sorry to my fellow Red Sox fans and readers for posting something about the Yankees. As a true baseball fan, this was something I had to point out.
