Audio: Shabazz Napier Visits With Joe & Dave in Red Sox Radio Booth

UConn Huskies Point Guard, Shabazz Napier, joined Joe Castiglione and Dave O’Brien in the WEEI Red Sox Radio booth for a half inning and talked about his experiences in college, his reasoning behind completing his education, and growing up in Boston.

Before the game, Napier had thrown out the first pitch after being honored with his teammates.

Afternoon Red Sox Delight – 4/22

After splitting a four-game set with the Orioles, the Boston Red Sox welcome the New York Yankees to Fenway Park tonight for the first game of a three-game set.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. The game will be broadcast on NESNplus in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Yankees market, you can catch the game on MY9. If you don’t live in either market you’re in luck as the MLB Network will have coverage of the game as well. And if you can’t catch the game on television, you can always listen on the 2014 Red Sox Radio Network.

Jon Lester takes the hill for the fifth time in 2014 and for just the second time at home. In his previous four starts, Lester is 2-2 with a 2.17 ERA. He picked up his first win of 2014 against the Yankees when he allowed two runs over 6.2 innings of work. He’s made 27 career starts against the Evil Empire and is 12-5 with a 3.90 ERA. 10 of those starts have come at the Fens where he is 3-2 with a 4.55 ERA.

Masahiro Tanaka will make his fourth start of 2014. In his first three starts, Tanaka is 2-0 with a 2.05 ERA. Tonight will be his indoctrination to the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry.

UConn Women Will Not Be At Red Sox Pregame Ceremony Tonight

The UConn Athletic Communications department released the following statement about the UConn Huskies women’s basketball teams participation in tonight’s festivities at Fenway Park before the Boston Red Sox game.

Boston Red SoxDue to an unforeseen conflict, the UConn women’s basketball team will not be participating in the first pitch ceremony at Fenway tonight.  The team feels awful as it would have been a great moment for UConn and we have apologized to the Red Sox.  The men are still scheduled to head up there and hopefully the Red Sox will consider having us at a later date. 

Red Sox To Honor UConn Huskies Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today announced that they will honor the University of Connecticut’s men’s and women’s basketball teams for their NCAA Championship wins tomorrow, Tuesday, April 22, at Fenway Park. This year marks the fourth and ninth national title for the men’s and women’s teams, respectively.

2014_UConn_Dual ChampsThe Huskies will throw out the ceremonial first pitches before Tuesday’s 7:10 p.m. game that opens a three-game series against the New York Yankees. Senior guard Shabazz Napier will throw for the men’s team, and junior forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis will throw for the women’s team. Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy will also be in attendance and participate in the ceremony.

The Red Sox will also celebrate Earth Day during Tuesday’s ceremonies, presented by National Grid. U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, and President of National Grid Massachusetts Marcy Reed will be present for those ceremonies.

Patriot’s Day Delight – 4/21

After winning a wild and crazy game on Sunday night, the Boston Red Sox look to make it three wins in a row today in the finale of a four-game set with the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. The game will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Orioles market, you can catch the game on MASN.  If you don’t live in either market you’re in luck as the MLB Network will have coverage of the game as well. And if you can’t catch the game on television, you can always listen on the 2014 Red Sox Radio Network.

Clay Buchholz takes the ball for the fourth time this season and second at home. In his previous three starts, Buchholz is 0-1 with a 5.51 ERA (10 ER/16.1 IP). He was 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA in two starts against the O’s in 2013. In 16 career appearances (15 starts), he is 9-3 with a 3.40 ERA against the Birds. Seven of those starts have come at the Fens where he is 4-1 with a 1.74 ERA.

Wei-Yin Chen steps to the bump for the fourth time in 2014. In his previous three starts, Chen is 2-1 with a 4.76 ERA. His only loss of the season came against the Red Sox on April 3 when he allowed four runs in 5.1 innings of work. He’s made eight career starts against them and is 2-3 with a 5.24 ERA. Five of those starts have come at the Fens where he is 1-2 with a 5.86 ERA.

After winning yesterday, the Boston Red Sox look to do it again tonight in the third game of a four-game set with the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN. You can also catch the game online or your mobile device/tablet on WatchESPN. And if you can’t catch the game on television, you can always listen on the 2014 Red Sox Radio Network.

The Red Sox will honor the heroes as well as the victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. You can watch the ceremony live on MLB.com beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Jake Peavy makes his fourth start of 2014 and third at the Fens. In his previous three starts, Peavy has no record with a 1.93 ERA (4 ER/18.2 IP). He picked up a no decision in his lone start of 2013 against the O’s after allowing three runs in seven innings of work which was only his lone Fenway Park start against them. He’s 2-0 with a 3.15 ERA (7 ER/20 IP) in three career starts against them.

Ubaldo Jimenez toes the slab for the fourth time this season. In his previous three starts, Jimenez is 0-3 with a 7.31 ERA (13 ER/16 IP). He took the loss in his first start as a member of the O’s against the Red Sox on April 2 when he allowed four runs in six innings of work. He’s made five career starts against the home team and is 1-3 with a 10.27 ERA (27 ER/23.2 IP). He took a loss in his lone Fenway start after allowing seven earned runs in 4.1 innings as a member of the Cleveland Indians.

After falling last night, the Boston Red Sox look to get back on track this afternoon in the second game of a four-game set with the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. The game will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Orioles market, you can catch the game on MASN.  And if you can’t catch the game on television, you can always listen on the 2014 Red Sox Radio Network.

Felix Doubront makes his fourth start of 2014 for the Red Sox. In his previous three starts, Doubront is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA (11 ER/14.2 IP). He picked up the win back on April 3 against the O’s after allowing three runs in 5.1 innings of work. He’s made 10 career appearances (six starts) against them and is 2-2 with a 4.61 ERA.

Bud Norris makes his third start of 2014 for the Orioles. In his two previous starts, Norris is 0-1 with a 3.75 ERA (5 ER/12 IP). He was 0-1 with a 3.18 ERA (4 ER/11.1 IP) in two starts against the Red Sox in 2013. Those two starts are also his only ones at the Fens. He’s made three career starts against them and is 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA (8 ER/17.1 IP)
