Boston Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis added another home run on Sunday night to help Team USA to a 14-5 pasting of Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada.

The win for the USA moves their record to 2-0 and means they will advance to the second round in Miami. Venezuela drops to 1-1 and will face the winner of Team Canada/Italy on Tuesday. The USA will face the winner of that game on Wednesday to determine seeding for the second round.

After Chipper Jones struck out, Youk followed with a single off of Armando Galarraga. David Wright made the second out with a fly out and then Adam Dunn followed with a single that saw Youk go from first to third. Both Youk and Dunn came around to score on a Mark DeRosa triple to tie the game up at 2.

Youk also had a pretty good 6th inning that saw Team USA score 8 runs to put the game out of reach.

He started off the inning with a strikeout but reached on wild pitch by Victor Zambrano. Wright followed with a single and then Dunn worked a walk to load the bases. After a visit to the mound from the pitching coach, Zambrano walked DeRosa to force in Youk and chase Zambrano from the game.

Carlos Vazquez came in and the first batter he faced was Rhode Island’s Chris Iannetta who hit a bases-clearing double to put Team USA up 6-3. Iannetta ended up at third on the throw home. Venezuela finally got an out when Curtis Granderson struck out. Yoel Hernandez came in and walked Derek Jeter.

Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia followed with a double that scored Iannetta and Jeter to put Team USA up 8-3. Ryan Braun, pinch-hitting for Chipper, grounded out moving Pedroia over to third. It wouldn’t matter though as Youk ended the night of Hernandez with a long 2-run homer to center field to give Team USA a 10-3 lead.

Youkilis finished 2-for-5 in the game with the home run, 2 RBIs and 4 runs scored. Pedroia went 1-for-5 with 2 RBIs.
