On Dec 13th, the Atlanta Tip-off Club announced it’s top 50 list for the Naismith Trophy sponsored by Cingular Wireless. Included on this list were Renee Montgomery and Charde Houston. Houston was also included in the top 30 preseason watch list for the Wooden Award.
The Naismith Trophy is given annually to the top player in both women’s and men’s basketball. The Atlanta Tip-off club bases it’s criteria on the player’s performances from last season and their expectations for the upcoming season.
Currently, Renee Montgomery is second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.8 points. Houston leads the team in scoring at 14.5 pts a game. Both were also named to the All Big East pre-season team (Montgomery: 1st team, Houston: Honorable Mention).
The Lady Huskies will return to action on Monday, Dec 18th when they face the University of Virgina in Charlottesville, VA. The team is currently in the midst of their final exams.
