The media has voted and they have picked the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team as top team in the land as the AP Poll was released this afternoon.
The Huskies received 44-of-45 first place votes and this is the first time in 5 years that they have been the preseason number 1 team in the land. It is also just the 6th time in school histoy for the Huskies to be on top of the AP Poll. It doesn’t matter though as the only goal the Huskies have is cutting down the nets in St. Louis in April.
The Big East had a total of 3 teams in the top 10 as Rutgers was number 5 and the Louisville Cardinals checked in at number 10. Notre Dame was the only other Big East team to be ranked as they are number 16.
Five teams (Pittsburgh, Marquette, Syracuse, DePaul and West Virginia) were in the others receiving votes category.
Here’s a look at the complete poll.
