Here’s the release from UConn and the Big East announcing the UConn Huskies men’s basketball team’s 2012-13 Big East opponents.

STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut men’s basketball team will play home-and-home series against Cincinnati, DePaul, Providence, and USF as part of its 18-game BIG EAST Conference schedule in 2012-13, according to the game sites and opponents breakdown released by the league Thursday afternoon.

UConn Huskies men's basketballThe Huskies will also play host to Syracuse in the final season in the league for the Orange, and will journey to Pittsburgh to play the Panthers in their last season as a BIG EAST member.

With 15 member schools in the BIG EAST in 2012-13, each team will play 10 league opponents once and four opponents twice. In addition to its four home-and-home opponents and Syracuse, UConn will also be at home against Georgetown, Louisville, Rutgers and Villanova.

The Huskies will play on the road against Marquette, Notre Dame, St. John’s and Seton Hall, as well as Pittsburgh and the four repeat opponents.

Nine of the UConn league games will be against teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season.

The BIG EAST will play a total of 135 regular-season conference games, with 75 single-play matchups and 30 home-and-home series. The selection of repeat opponents is based on television contractual obligations, the projected strength of teams, competitive balance, rivalries, geography, and schedule history.  All league games will be televised, either by CBS or the ESPN family of networks.

Of the 30 home-and-home series, only seven are the same as last season. UConn played home-and-home series against Syracuse, Notre Dame, and Seton Hall last year.

The complete 2012-13 BIG EAST schedule, including venues, game dates and starting times, will be announced at a later date.
