They’ve been bitter rivals in the two games they’ve played against each other this year. Now they share an award.
The Big East Conference announced today that UConn Huskies junior center Hasheem Thabeet and Pittsburgh Panthers sophomore center DeJuan Blair were named the Big East Co-Players of the Year. It’s the first time the award has been shared since the 2001-02 season when Caron Butler (UConn) and Brandon Knight (Pittsburgh) were honored.
Thabeet averaged a double-double with 13.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and added 4.5 blocks per game this season while Blair averaged 15.6 points and 12.4 rebounds. Both players were named to the All-Big East First Team and Thabeet was also named Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight time.
