UConn Huskies starting cornerback Jasper Howard has passed away at the age of 20 after being stabbed during an altercation after a homecoming dance on campus in Storrs, CT.
According to the Hartford Courant, Howard was leaving the dance when the altercation occurred and was one of two people stabbed. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to UConn’s website, the perpetrator is still at large. Police are actively investigating this incident and anyone with information is asked to contact the UConn Police at 860-486-4800.
Earlier on Saturday, Howard had played in UConn’s 38-25 win over the Louisville Cardinals. During the game, he had 11 tackles and forced a fumble that he recovered.
Howard, a junior, had made 23 tackles this season and 96 tackles, three career interceptions and two forced fumbles. He was also the top return man in the Big East.
He is survived by his mother and sisters. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, the entire UConn football program and his friends on this tragic loss.
