It took only six games for someone from the Boston Red Sox to head to the disabled list. And for Alfredo Aceves, it means he may get a chance to pitch against his old team, the New York Yankees this weekend.
Earlier on Thursday night, Aceves was scratched from his start with the Pawtucket Red Sox prompting speculation that there would be a roster move with the big club. And now we know what that move will be.
According to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox will place Matt Albers on the disabled list and Aceves will take his place in the bullpen.
Ironically enough, Alber has been one of the better relievers during the opening six-game losing streak. In two innings of work, he hasn’t allowed a run and has walked two to go along with three strikeouts.
Now this is complete speculation on my part but it wouldn’t surprise me if we see Dennys Reyes getting designated for assignment or put on the disabled list with an “injury”. Reyes has pretty much stunk up the joint in his three outings so far this season. Rich Hill or Hideki Okajima would be candidates to replace him should something happen with Reyes.
