Just two days ago, we saw Mike Aviles playing for the Kansas City Royals when they were at Historic Fenway Park taking on the Boston Red Sox. Now he is a member of the Red Sox.
Earlier this afternoon, the Red Sox traded utility infielder/outfielder Yamaico Navarro and minor league pitcher Kendal Volz to the Royals for Aviles. He is expected to be in uniform tonight for the Red Sox in Chicago.
In 53 games for the Royals this season, Aviles was hitting .222 with five home runs, 31 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. Navarro has split time with Triple-A Pawtucket and the big club this season.
In 16 games for the Red Sox, he was hitting .216 with one home run and three RBIs. With the PawSox he was hitting .258 with five home runs and 13 RBIs in 34 games.
Volz was a 9th round pick of the Red Sox in 2009 and has spent the 2011 season with the Salem Red Sox. In 31 games out of the bullpen, he was 2-3 with a 3.33 ERA and two saves.
