FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Boston Red Sox issued the following statement regarding second baseman Dustin Pedroia:

“Red Sox Medical Director Dr. Tom Gill examined Dustin Pedroia this evening in Fort Myers, Fla. Pedroia was diagnosed with a minor strain in his lower left abdominal region. While he will be held out from activity for a couple of days, it is not expected that he will miss significant time. Pedroia will rejoin Red Sox spring training camp on Sunday and is no longer participating in the World Baseball Classic.”

This is good news folks as the Red Sox really can’t afford to have Pedroia out of the lineup at the beginning of the season.
